Software Dev Engineer - Networking, Software Defined Network

Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

THE ROLE:
Have you ever wanted an opportunity to develop software for a satellite broadband telecom service? Project Kuiper's Software Defined Networking (SDN) team will design, implement and operate the network virtualization stack and control plane that provides a high throughput telecom service comprised of Low Earth Orbit satellites, customer terminals, gateways, Cloud services and terrestrial network infrastructure.
We are building an end-to-end system encompassing satellites, ground gateways and customer terminals.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Take responsibility for designing and delivering a modern, flexible, high throughput, low latency network virtualization architecture.
• Implement custom networking protocols, security, quality of service, communications infrastructure and management tools to administer best-in-class network services for delivering high throughput, low latency traffic.
• Define and automate the standard processes for design, implementation, and maintenance of network operations including incident resolution.

Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

A day in the life
You will collaborate with various stakeholders to create the world’s most innovative products. You will design and develop the code that is the "brain" behind the network. We will test and integrate our code on prototypes and production environments.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $115,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $223,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
