Overview
Full-Time student of a specialized internal training program.
A Scrub Assistant Trainee participates in the 6-month formal education program to train for the role of a surgical technologist in the Operating Room (OR) or Surgery environment. The program prepares students to assist with operations in the operating room, under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, surgical assistants, or other surgical personnel. The Surgical Tech role helps set up the operating room, maintain an aseptic environment, prepare and transport patients for surgery, adjust lights and equipment, pass instruments and other supplies to surgeons and surgeon’s assistants, hold retractors, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies and instruments.

Responsibilities
- Identifies instruments and places in instrument sets completely.
- Operates sterilizers.
- Maintains sterilization records through documentation of the sterilization process.
- Reports problems with sterilization immediately to the O.R. Charge Nurse.
- Performs Attest (biological test) appropriately.
- Operates Steris System properly and documents process.
- Attends/completes all required in-services.
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma/GED; College Experience Preferred; Medical Terminology Preferred
HH Employee: No Written Warning/Suspension Within the Year
Experience: None
Additional Skills/Abilities: BLS required prior to clinical rotation.
Must possess excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast paced environment requiring prioritizing and flexibility with changing tasks frequently and quickly.
