Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
Job Description
As the Sr. Director/Director, Program Standards & Operations you will be a positive, highly professional leader with a thoughtful, proactive nature, strong interpersonal instincts, and the ability to influence others and solve problems collaboratively. You will have full functional responsibility for managing and leading a team of individuals responsible for evaluating programming content, with wide latitude for initiative, judgment, and action. You will coordinate and leverage standards capabilities throughout VERSANT, including organizing and implementing standards initiatives and projects and serving as an advisor on standards matters across multiple portfolios.
- Lead, manage, grow and inspire team members with varying levels of experience in a complex and rapidly evolving environment, while nurturing a culture of coaching, learning, feedback, and teamwork, and encouraging collaboration, creative thinking, and innovation.
- Be hands on, including screening, issuing notes, and assigning Television Parental Guidelines ratings for multiple programming formats (e.g., scripted and unscripted), to ensure compliance with all regulatory and industry self-regulatory requirements as well VERSANT’s program and advertising standards.
- Interface regularly and foster excellent relationships with internal sales, commercial operations, legal and creative executives to enforce standards decisions and reinforce and solicit feedback on standards policies.
- Manage the coordination of cross-department teams on strategic projects, serving as an organizational problem solver, collaborating on effective solutions, and delivering excellence in execution, including driving projects that help the department utilize technology more effectively within the content review eco-system.
- Serve as a senior decision-maker and subject matter expert for content standards throughout VERSANT and participate in decisions affecting major policy and procedural issues.
- Promote coordination of standards activities and sharing of best practices across VERANT’s linear, streaming, and other digital platforms to ensure consistency in standards processes to the extent possible.
- Demonstrates a strong understanding of, or a willingness to learn, operational workflows and commercial content formats, and how they inform strategic planning and cross-functional collaboration.
Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- BA/BS Degree (MBA, JD or LLM a plus), or equivalent work experience.
- 5+ years combined experience in standards and practices, and/or relevant work experience in any of following areas: trust and safety, content moderation, production, or Risk, Policy or Legal within the media, entertainment or technology industries.
- At least 3 years of experience leading teams.
