Senior Technical Director, Design/Build Project Manager

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Technical Director, Design/Build Project Manager in our Charlotte, NC office.
This role provides leadership within our Southeastern Region to ensure transportation subject matter, technical deliverables, and programs are delivered with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry and company standards. You will be responsible for SME innovation and administration; ensuring corporate compliance with all Local, State, and Federal Agency regulations; and providing pragmatic direction to address current and future planning challenges in a rapidly-changing and complex business climate.

Your Impact- Provide proactive and strategic process and people leadership for the design, implementation, and administration of the engineering discipline’s project and program involvement, promoting a robust awareness of the function’s expertise and capabilities throughout the company
- Accountable for overall management and successful execution of engineering projects within the engineering discipline, monitoring internal and external events, expenses, performance, and profitability.
- Accountable for the overall long-term strategy, growth, and pipeline development of Civil Engineering for WSP in assigned area of responsibility, with a focus on infrastructure opportunities in all disciplines (planning, design, and strategic consulting and program/construction management).
- Oversee the discipline’s vision and mission to promote an appropriate value proposition that accounts for corporate and WSP client business strategy, governmental regulations and policies, and QA/QC in delivery.
- Create a learning culture that values innovative subject matter expertise and fosters effective and continual personal development.
- Develop and implement a communication strategy to increase the effectiveness of discipline-related processes, systems, and practices, and mitigating discipline-related risks.
- Serve as the company’s civil engineering discipline subject matter expert to a variety of internal / external entities including Federal, State, and Local Agencies, Clients, Subcontractors, industry-related groups, and various government and community entities.
- Manages overall engineering discipline performance and provides inspiring leadership to assigned management and staff.
- Develop extensive high-level business contacts and client base for providing high level civil engineering services including identifying additional business development opportunities, and cross-selling of other WSP capabilities.
- Remain current in latest civil engineering techniques and practices.
- Collaborates with professionals and senior leadership from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline.
- 15+ years of relevant post education experience in engineering, civil and infrastructure design.
- Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).
- Advanced proficiency with civil engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, standard of care, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
- Extensive advanced proficiency with infrastructure design.
- Advanced knowledge of relevant civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements, and the business impact upon the organization.
- Demonstrated ability with establishing, implementing, and managing multiple larger-scale discipline-related programs, documents, projects, and practices for a line(s) of business.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to manage staff, and effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.
- Strategic lateral thinking and strong analytical skills with attention to detail and prioritization of responsibilities in a pressure work environment.
- Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including senior management, clients, and company-wide staff, including those with whom no formal hierarchical relationship
