Director, Corporate Counsel, Employment & Litigation

The Director, Corporate Counsel, Litigation, Employment & Operations is a collaborative and results oriented attorney who has strong communications, and interpersonal skills, works independently in a fast paced and growth-oriented business environment handling matters across a variety of disciplines working effectively with numerous business stakeholders. This position requires a sharp analytical mind, strong work ethic and presentation skills, as well as a combination of employment, contracts, and litigation experience. This role has direct day-to-day responsibilities for providing advising on a broad range of legal issues, including, litigation management, regulatory compliance, contracts, labor and employment related matters and other areas of law as may be required.

Duties & Responsibilities

This attorney will be responsible for working across the Employment, Ethics & Compliance, Operations

Services and Supply Chain legal teams within the Legal Department and the business units we support to

protect the company’s interests by supervising litigation and pre-litigation matters, collaborating with legal

colleagues, and advising internal clients on various matters, issues and risks including:

  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating various forms of contracts (e.g., employment, operations services, supply chain, agency, non-disclosure, etc.).
  • Reviewing and evaluating materials and activities for compliance with various regulations, statutes, and policies to minimize claims from regulators, vendors, employees, and consumers.
  • Managing pre-litigation claims, settlement negotiations and other ADR, and federal and state litigation, through oversight of outside counsel, including (i) drafting, reviewing, and revising pleadings, motions, settlement agreements, and other litigation-based documents; (ii) managing discovery process, coordinating document collection, e-discovery, witness identification and interviews, and related strategy; (iii) assisting in preparing fact witnesses, corporate designees, and experts; (iv) attending depositions, hearings, trials, and other case events as appropriate; (v) responding to subpoenas and other official inquiries; (vi) preparing presentations on litigations for internal leaders; and (vi) coordinating required internal and external litigation reporting.
  • Minimizing legal exposure by proactively reviewing existing policies, practices, forms, and contracts, and providing counsel on emerging risks and issues.
  • Monitoring changes in relevant laws and regulations and communicate guidance to appropriate colleagues.
  • Developing and presenting employee training on litigation issues and related policies and practices.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships, credibility, and trust with business partners, legal team members, and other colleagues.
  • Contributing to global legal team projects and strategic initiatives.
  • Performing other tasks as assigned from time to time.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

The following background is required:

  • J.D. from an accredited law school with strong academic credentials. Current membership with state bar in good standing. Minimum of 5 years of experience at reputable law firm and/or in-house department.
  • Experience managing civil litigation matters on a variety of topics before federal and state courts.
  • Ability to negotiate resolutions to disputes utilizing creative problem-solving skills.
  • Superior abilities in analyzing complicated laws and regulations and translating them into practical, business-oriented legal counsel.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills within and across departments and externally; must be proactive in providing counsel to clients.
  • Outstanding organizational skills to handle multiple projects simultaneously and effectively prioritize deadlines.
  • Laser-focus on client-service excellence by being highly proactive, responsive, adaptable, and team-oriented.
  • Innovative and creative thinker.
  • Dependable and works with a sense of urgency.
  • Ensures that clients have a positive experience; commits to meet or exceed client expectations
