About the role

GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF POSITION:
The Assistant Director of Debt Collections is responsible for assisting the College’s Collections Hub with various collection efforts. This includes managing the College’s Tax Offset Program. This position is also responsible for helping the Collections Hub review student accounts and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

TAX OFFSET

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and continuously improvement of the College’s policies, standards, training, and procedures for its Tax Offset Program.

  • Manage the College’s relationship with the Indiana Department of Revenue (IDOR), including file creation and transmission, maintaining appropriate spreadsheets, and updating students’ status at the IDOR.

  • Assist in the management of communications to the campus staff.

  • Manage and review accuracy of Offset File.

  • Manage the Tax Offset Program’s distribution of letters.

  • Assist in the management of the College’s seasonal Tax Offset Program employees including the creation of training material.

  • Assist in the review and posting of IDOR tax cases such as injured spouse and lottery winnings.

  • Complete accounting entries to properly record Tax Offset Program activity.

COLLECTIONS:

  • Assist in the monthly entry of statements from the College’s collection agencies.

  • Manage, review, and update student addresses monthly.

  • Manage the review and research of disputes from the College’s collection agencies.

  • Assist in the management and review of the College’s daily report for the Debt Collections Hub.

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and continuously improvement of the College’s policies, standards, training, and procedures for its Debt Collection Hub.

  • Assist the Debt Collections Hub in processing when able.

  • Serve of the backup to the Director of Debt Collections.

This is not to be construed as an exhaustive list.  Other duties logically associated with this position may be assigned.  All responsibilities will be conducted within the parameters of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), other applicable regulatory requirements, and professional standards.

SUPERVISION GIVEN: None

SALARY RANGE: $50,000 - $55,000 Annualized

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Associate Degree required. 

  • Two or more years’ experience in debt collections is required.

  • Experience with Ellucian Banner is preferred.

  • Strong interpersonal and team-building skills are required.

  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities are required.

  • Must be able to work under deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Have a strong foundation in customer service with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent documentation skills are required.

  • Collaborative team player is required.
