Position Summary

The Regional Sales Manager (RSM) is responsible for leading, developing, and holding accountable a team of Specialty Sales Specialists to consistently achieve sales goals. This includes hiring, coaching, performance management, and ensuring execution of sales strategies in alignment with Acadia’s mission, values, and compliance standards. The RSM fosters a high-performance, customer-focused culture by setting clear expectations, providing regular coaching and feedback, and ensuring performance discussions and documentation are completed in a timely manner.

Primary Responsibilities

Lead and Manage the Team

  • Recruit, hire, and onboard top talent, ensuring team members have the skills and resources to succeed.
  • Set clear performance expectations and hold team members accountable through regular coaching, performance reviews, and documented follow-up.
  • Address performance issues promptly through direct, constructive conversations and formal documentation, in partnership with HR as needed.
  • Foster a customer-centric, results-driven culture through modeling strong relationships with key customers and decision makers.
  • Recognize and reward high performance, while addressing underperformance decisively.

Coach and Develop

  • Conduct regular in-person field visits to observe sales calls, evaluate execution, and provide real-time feedback.
  • Collaborate with each Sales Specialist to create and track individualized development plans.
  • Partner with the Commercial Effectiveness Training team to ensure completion of onboarding and continuous skill development programs.
  • Provide actionable market feedback to Marketing, Market Access, and other cross-functional teams to improve strategies and resources.

Manage the Business

  • Develop and execute a regional business plan that aligns with national strategy and maximizes results.
  • Manage regional budget responsibly, tracking ROI and making adjustments as needed.
  • Analyze sales performance and market trends, taking corrective action to close gaps and leverage opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with all company policies, industry regulations, and applicable laws.

Education / Experience / Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree required- Business, Life Sciences preferred.
  • To qualify for Regional Sales Manager candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, including sales or relevant cross-functional roles (e.g., marketing, training, market access). At least 2 years of sales management experience are required. Neuroscience and specialty sales experience are strongly preferred.
  • To qualify for Sr. Regional Sales Manager candidates must have a minimum of 8 years of progressively responsible experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, including sales or relevant cross-functional roles (e.g., marketing, training, market access). At least 5 years of sales management experience are required. Neuroscience and specialty sales experience are strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead teams to exceed sales targets, manage performance, and have direct, documented performance discussions.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to influence, inspire, and motivate individuals toward achieving goals.
  • Skilled at verbal and written performance evaluations and formal documentation of employee performance.
  • Business acumen to identify future opportunities and anticipate customer needs.
  • Must live within the boundaries of the assigned region and near a major airport.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
