Regional Director, Environment of Care/Safety Officer Full Time BHS

Provides oversight and direction of the BHS safety/emergency management programs.  Coordinates with Safety Officers/Emergency Mangers in all 5 facilities to assure compliance with applicable regulatory agencies and to design a safety program that enhances safety awareness and education.  Individual shall contribute to the total hospital and system management team promoting safety and patient safety in conjunction with regulatory compliance, providing leadership, and assuring quality patient care.  Coordinates efforts with community and city emergency management departments to ensure that BHS is integrated in the overall emergency response activities of San Antonio. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period.  Other related duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM EDUCATION: Bachelors Degree or experience in lieu of education

PREFERRED EDUCATION:  Masters Degree in Hospital Administration, Business Administration, Nursing or related field.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Hospital experience with 8 or more years in a similar management position

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:  Safety Officer experience in a hospital/healthcare environment

Provides overall direction and support to Facilities Management Departments. Prepares and maintains fiscal operating budget. Assists administration with planning of facility expansion/renovations. Prepares and maintains a 5-year capital expenditure forecast. Develops and maintains a preventive maintenance program for all equipment, buildings, and grounds. Oversees the operation of all Life Support systems related to patient safety and operations. Directs and coordinates utility source capability throughout the hospital for control and efficient, effective use of all services. Oversees, develops, and maintains updated information on NFPA Life Safety Codes and JCAHO building and safety requirements. Develops, implements, administers, and modifies programs to maintain the physical plant, grounds, and equipment through effective utilization of personnel and materials in accordance with local, state, and federal codes, and hospital policies / procedures. Makes recommendations to administration as appropriate. Oversees, develops, and maintains updated information on NFPA, Life Safety Codes, TJC, CMS, building and safety requirements. Develops and maintains staff training requirements as required, and as needs change,

Education:

Required: Associate degree in facilities related field. Trade school education and additional five years trade experience may be considered.
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree

Experience:

Required: 10 years hospital experience with at least five years progressive management experience.

Certifications:

Required: CHFM certification. New hire can be given the opportunity to acquire certification within one year of employment if other qualifications are met.
