About the Opportunity:
The Associate Port Engineer position is a critical shore-based role that offers a qualified employee the opportunity to demonstrate leadership, technical expertise, and mechanical & electrical skills to support a comprehensive program of preventative maintenance, routine maintenance, and repair of the City Cruises passenger vessel fleet. This position supports the Port Engineer in overseeing the engineering operations of the fleet, ensuring compliance with US Coast Guard regulations, and maintaining the highest standards of safety and reliability.
The Associate Port Engineer will play a key role in developing and executing detailed plans for significant repair and maintenance (R&M) and capital projects for assigned vessels, equipment, and pier-side facilities. This includes leading efforts to identify corrective maintenance needs, overseeing repairs, and ensuring accurate documentation in the HELM Maintenance Management System.
This position requires broad knowledge and experience with various types of marine machinery and systems, including diesel engines, generators, transmissions, HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and hydraulics. The Associate Port Engineer will work closely with other departments, vendors, and service providers to maintain fleet readiness and support operational excellence.
In addition to technical expertise, this role demands strong leadership and mentoring skills to support and develop the engineering and vessel staff into capable, dependable problem-solvers. The Associate Port Engineer will be expected to respond to service calls at various pier locations and on vessels underway, including work during dry dock and layup periods. This is a highly visible role with significant responsibility for maintaining the operational integrity of the City Cruises fleet.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintain a positive working relationship and open communication with the local Coast Guard inspection team
- Develops a positive working relationship and works closely with the Deck Department to ensure a team approach, to ensure fleet is in top condition for safety, regulatory compliance, mechanical and is aesthetically pleasing
- Develops positive working relationships with other department heads and peers.

- Support and maintain the safety and reliability of the City Cruises New York fleet and equipment.
- Ensure adherence to company safety policies, USCG regulations, and best marine engineering practices.
- Supervise assigned engineers, maintenance personnel, and crewmembers; provide training for routine, repair, and emergency duties.
- Assist the Port Engineer in setting department priorities and executing them effectively.
- Maintain all equipment to manufacturer specifications.
- Provide training and technical support to the engineering and deck departments.
- Inspect marine equipment and machinery to create work requests and job specifications.
- Specify and procure equipment and materials to repair and upgrade vessels, ensuring compliance with USCG regulations.
- Manage inventory and track repair equipment and parts.
- Ensure timely completion and documentation of all preventative maintenance items in HELM.
- Maintain accurate records in HELM, including maintenance completion, work reports, and inventory updates.
- Support the recruitment, onboarding, and training of new engineering team members.
- Ensure all work complies with USCG regulations and sound marine practices.
- Assist with operational oversight of the engineering and maintenance department, including budgeting (RFPs, bids, capital projects), task assignments, crew scheduling, and regulatory compliance.
- Perform and manage preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs on all vessel equipment including but not limited to:
- Diesel engines (main, generator & bow thruster)
- Propulsion running gear (marine gears, shafts, couplings, shaft seals, bearings)
- AC Electrical equipment (generators, switchgear, distribution systems, motors, etc.)
- DC Electrical equipment (batteries, charging systems, etc.)
- Hydraulic systems, pumps & piping systems, pneumatic compressors and controls
