About the role

The Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) to be a strategic partner supporting our Development organization. This strategic role involves being a finance business partner to several critical functional areas, including leading support for our Respiratory portfolio and Infectious Disease Therapeutic Area. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in forecasting and budget analysis, combined with excellent communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities while embodying Moderna’s Mindsets.

Here’s What You Will Do

  • Financial Planning/Decision Analysis:

  • Act as a strategic finance business partner to key functional leaders within the Development organization, providing strategic financial insights and recommendations. Act with urgency to drive impactful and timely decision-making that supports critical programs

  • Lead financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes for assigned areas, ensuring they align with corporate objectives by providing support for senior executives, including members of the Research and Development Leadership Team and behave like an owner, take full accountability for driving financial performance in these areas

  • Conduct variance analysis to understand the drivers of performance and identify trends, allowing you to continuously obsess over learning and refine financial strategies

  • Strategic Financial Leadership:

  • Lead financial support for the Respiratory portfolio and ensure alignment of resources and investments across this critical area, pushing past possible to maximize the potential of these programs

  • Partner with Digital Finance and R&D Data/Digital teams to bring a holistic viewpoint of digital investments needed to support R&D objectives. By digitizing everywhere possible, optimize financial decisions and processes through digital tools and insights

  • Provide financial insights that challenge conventional thinking. Question convention to offer innovative financial strategies that drive strategic decision-making and support the organization’s growth trajectory

  • Collaboration and Reporting:

  • Collaborate across cross-functional teams, including Development, Accounting, Procurement, and Human Resources, to ensure financial alignment and support organizational initiatives

  • Remove viscosity by promoting seamless cooperation between departments, leading to efficient decision-making and resource management

  • Present financial reports to business partners with a focus on highlighting both opportunities and risks by acting with dynamic range to ensure that financial reporting not only reflects current conditions but also drives future strategy

  • Process Improvement and Continuous Learning:

  • Manage the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, ensuring accuracy and timeliness

  • Lead initiatives to improve these processes and prioritize the platform by focusing on scalable, long-term solutions that enhance overall efficiency

  • Support the continuous improvement of FP&A processes and systems to enhance reporting and analysis capabilities by obsessing over learning by using new data and insights to continuously refine financial forecasting and reporting processes

  • Pursue multiple options in parallel for process improvements, ensuring flexibility and adaptability in decision-making

  • Pivot fearlessly when new insights or data emerge to ensure financial planning remains aligned with the organization’s strategic objectives

Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications)

  • 6+ years of progressive experience in related field, including financial planning & analysis, and/or financial operations roles
