We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Engineer to join our dynamic software development team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in systems engineering while working closely with diverse software development teams. This role requires an individual who is proactive, adaptable, and capable of addressing complex challenges with minimal guidance in a fast-paced, high-visibility environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Systems Engineering & Requirements Management:
- Collaborate with the Technical Team Lead and Government leadership to elicit, define, and decompose system and software requirements.
- Prioritize and refine requirements to ensure alignment with project goals and stakeholder needs.
- Translate high-level operational needs into actionable technical specifications.
- Software Testing & Evaluation:
- Design and execute comprehensive software test plans, including functional, performance, and usability testing.
- Assess software reliability and ensure compliance with established technical and operational standards.
- Conduct evaluations and provide feedback for continuous improvement in software quality.
- Agile Development & Process Improvement:
- Actively participate in Agile software development processes, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and retrospectives.
- Identify opportunities to enhance Agile practices and improve team efficiency.
- Facilitate Agile process reviews and support iterative development cycles.
- Use Case Development & Validation:
- Develop and refine use cases to validate software functionality against operational scenarios.
- Support the team in conducting user acceptance testing (UAT) and ensuring end-user needs are met.
- Training & Documentation:
- Develop user training materials and conduct training sessions to support software deployment and adoption.
- Maintain up-to-date system documentation, including user guides, technical manuals, and process workflows.
- Schedule Management & Risk Communication:
- Work with Technical Team Lead and Government stakeholders to develop schedule inputs and track project milestones.
- Identify and communicate dependencies, risks, and impediments that could impact project success.
- Proactively engage with stakeholders to address challenges and ensure project alignment.
Required Qualifications:
- TS/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph
- A bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline and twenty (20) years' experience as an SE in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required. Twenty (25) years’ SE experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree
- Experience with agile development methodologies
- Willingness to learn and develop strong understanding new technologies and products
- Experience developing and updating technical documentation including project schedules
- Experience with requirements management to include working with customers to capture clear definition of done.
- Proven experience as a Systems Engineer supporting software development teams.
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), Agile methodologies, and system integration principles.
- Experience in requirements engineering, including elicitation, decomposition, and prioritization.
- Hands-on experience with software testing, validation, and evaluation.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently with minimal guidance.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with technical teams and government stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with government software development projects.
- Familiarity with DevSecOps, cloud computing, or cybersecurity principles.
- Experience managing systems in virtual environments such as AWS.
- Experience executing test procedures.
- Knowledge of JIRA, Confluence, or similar Agile project management tools.
