Position Summary

This position is focused on communicating the various services we provide to meet the Company’s mission of providing world-class energy solutions to meet the diverse and unique needs of our customers and employees. Responsible for supporting communications plan development, execution, and measurement in order to meet Company and department goals.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Plan, execute, and measure public relations efforts in support of CPS Energy’s mission, “People First” philosophy, and the company’s safety culture.
  • Core responsibilities focus on operational/tactical aspects of the organization and limited, if any, strategic focus.
  • Proactively pitch news stories to local, regional, and national media sources.
  • Collaborate with various internal departments to ensure communications goals are met.
  • Identifies improvements in existing processes needed to increase the level of efficiency.
  • Serves as part of the media relations and on-call team responsible for expediting media inquiries and monitoring the CPS Energy media phone line.
  • Stays on top of industry trends in energy, public relations, and social media.
  • Performs other project and process improvement initiatives as assigned.

Demonstrated ability to multi-task various critical work assignments proactively and independently in a fast paced environment and in a professional manner.Demonstrated well-developed written and verbal communications skills for interaction within the section, across departmental lines to all levels of personnel, and vertically with management.Basic understanding of project management principles and Associated Press Style.Demonstrated positive interpersonal behaviors toward CPS Energy, associates, and customers consistent with company core values.Initiative to work independently or as a member of a team, coordinating with others to achieve desired resultsAbility to make independent decisions and often makes recommendations which affect the section, department and/or divisionAbility to set priorities, organize work and make occasional exceptions.Ability to work in a variety of locations such as the field, construction centers and the main officeKnowledge of principles, practices and procedures of a particular field of specialization.Strong planning and analytical skills; ability to assess complex situations, make decisions and manage projects from start to a positive outcome

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in developing communications for a variety of channels and audiences in a corporate environment, large public entity, or a public relations agency.

Minimum Education

Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or Related Field from an accredited university. or experience in related field

Required Certifications

Working Environment

Indoor work, operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi-functioning printer and calculator. Ability to travel between business related events. Work hours may be extended.
