Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Police Communications Operator - Boca Raton, FL.

Summary of Responsibilities:

• Operate Police and other radio systems, monitor alarm, access control and camera systems.

• Dispatch officers and other emergency personnel as needed.

• Accurately document officer status, location and activity.

• Monitor Crisis 24 and Emergency Alerting System.

• Handle emergency and non-emergency telephone calls, prioritize calls and channel pertinent information to officers and supervisory personnel.

• Make necessary emergency notifications.

• Operate Criminal Justice Information Systems computer terminal to include inquiries and entering persons, vehicles and property at the direction of officers.

• Provide the public with assistance on complaints and informational services, lost and found property, bicycle registration, directions, fingerprinting and other services.

• Use tact and discretion.

• Observe strict confidentiality rules.

• Direct persons to proper supervisory level as necessary.

• Monitor messages directed to the department and information related to local criminal activity and officer safety.

• Demonstrate knowledge of police terminology and procedures, Florida criminal and civil law as it pertains to police operations, campus geography, police services and University policies and procedures pertaining to police operations.
