A Tradesperson Class 1 (packaging) in the Filters department is responsible for supporting the high reliability and high-volume manufacturing of packaged fiber Bragg gratings for subsea telecommunication applications. In this position, you will be responsible for a wide variety of fiber handling/inspection, mechanical assembly/inspection as well as fiber optic splicing and interpretation of optical measurements. During these functions, you will be responsible for understanding and interpreting a variety of technical specifications, terms, and written work instruction documents. You will also operate and maintain automated and semi-automated production processes used in the manufacturing and testing of high reliability fiber Bragg gratings. You will use your expertise and experience to operate equipment, communicate equipment issues to engineering and assist with troubleshooting when issues are detected.

Duties/Responsibilities

•    *Supports day-to-day operation of one or more work stations or cells with minimal supervision. This involves: understanding technical requirements, maintaining process controls, understanding Lean Daily Management targets/thresholds and supporting 5S activities.
•    *Packaging Room T1 is expected to maintain qualification and be proficient in processes involving fiber handling/inspection, mechanical assembly/inspection, fiber optic splicing and the interpretation of optical measurements. Proficiency is defined as being able to meet all throughput and quality goals under normal circumstances.
•    *Successfully trains peers on one or more processes.
•    *Troubleshoots production problems with the support of engineering. Determines the plausible causes of issues such as quality defects or machine downtime.
•    *Understands and is held accountable for meeting the quality and delivery thresholds for their workstation.
•    *Supports continuous improvement by suggesting process improvements to the PIM process.
•    Supports Lean Daily Management (LDM) by providing feedback on communication boards. May be expected to lead LDM activities. 
•    *Follows verbal and written instruction, accepts increased responsibility and is accountable for his/her actions. 
•    Responds to multiple production assignments in a timely and efficient manner.
•    Overtime may be required, based on business need; regular attendance required.
