The three main foundational pillars of our internship program are: develop, educate and network. We want to ensure each of our interns receive a real-world working experience that encourages academic, professional and personal growth.

Candidates should be versatile, eager and able to work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive financial and technical environment. Our interns will have the flexibility of working 2 days remotely, and 3 days in office per week at one of our state-of-the-art offices in Chicago, Kansas City, and New York City. To be eligible for this internship, applicants must be enrolled in a university or college program and should not be scheduled to graduate before December of the internship year. The BIDS Software Development team is hiring for a Software Engineer intern.

BIDS Trading is an institutional network and broker/dealer that provides software to help asset managers trade large blocks of liquidity. BIDS Trading operates one of the world’s largest equity block trading systems across the U.S., Europe and Canada. The Software Engineer Intern at BIDS will be passionate about technology and innovative engineering. As a team, we are tasked with delivering high-performance, reliable and fault-tolerant trading systems within an ever-changing and fascinating landscape involving human and algorithmic interactions, optimization and problem-solving.

Your responsibilities and learning objectives will be:

Working alongside a world-class engineering team, you will be making real contributions to our core matching engine and surrounding components. You will gain hands-on experience writing production-grade, robust code in a highly collaborative environment.

• Learn the fundamentals of US-equity market structure, trade and order lifecycles
• Obtain a deep understanding of trade and order management systems, matching engines and message flows
• Gain real-world exposure to Agile software development methodologies

The ideal candidate:

• Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Computer Science, or related field and should not be scheduled to graduate before December of the year in which the internship takes place.
• Experience in Java or other programming language, with a desire to learn Java
• Experience with Linux or UNIX-like operating systems, shell programming and networking
• Some database and SQL experience

You’ll really stand out with:

• Knowledge of CI/CD tools and workflows
• Exposure to peer-review tooling such as GitHub or BitBucket
• A keen interest in financial markets, economics and trading
