Summary:

The Trading Analyst position is crucial in facilitating the Clean Products Value Chain (CPVC) – Trading strategies through data analytics, providing actionable insights to the trading team. This role involves analyzing and forecasting market trends using price charts, indicators, and historical data to support strategic decision-making within MPC’s Commercial team. This analyst will enhance visibility, alignment, and strategic insights for traders, ensuring that trading signals and indicators support business goals and market responsiveness.

This position offers a growth opportunity for a highly motivated individual with a strong analytical skills and keen interest in a commercial career. The successful candidate will gain an understanding of the clean products supply and trading while performing a complex and critical function on a growing team. They will interact with CPVC Trading personnel, management, and internal stakeholders, including IT, Pricing, Risk, Marketing, Supply, Business Planning & Analysis (BP&A), Law, and Finance.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, with robust analytical abilities and excellent communication skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Own and leverage advanced data science models, ensuring they accurately reflect market dynamics and opportunities 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful implementation and continuous improvement of these analytical models
  • Deliver trade signals, monitor signal effectiveness, and measure the Economic P&L performance
  • Supports the Trading profit & loss or supply & demand models through tracking of daily positions and reconciles differences between Traders and Commercial Risk
  • Develops and manages commercial focused trading tools, dashboards, and reports
  • Develops a forward market view based on fundamental research and analytics that enable actionable trading activity
  • Executes a variety of ad-hoc analytical work and presentations as required by leadership
  • Acquires and maintains external and internal information and resources to develop market intelligence. Host market presentations from third party vendors
  • Potential to backfill on Trading Desks and engages with external counterparties and internal resources to optimize and execute the supply & trading operations plan
  • Provides analytical support in the modeling and evaluation of new business opportunities and strategy development
  • Leads feedback discussions with Trading personnel on performance metrics and understanding of physical and priced positions

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, Economics, Engineering, Marine or related discipline required.
• Five (5) or more years of experience in Commercial, Risk, Trading Analytics, Marine, Scheduling, or Marketing required.
