About the role

Primarily focuses on food preparation and distribution while maintaining camp cleanliness. Ensures the safety, promotion and engagement of campers during lake recreational activities during meals and meal chores. Assists with additional activities that support overall camp operations.

This position will work on-site in Okoboji, IA from May 24 through August 9. Housing will be provided during this period.

Please note that you will be required to attend in-person training from May 25 through May 30. With potential to train during the week of May 13th.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

Provides safe and effective services

  • Adheres to policies related to safety and boundaries with service recipients.

  • Attends safety and abuse risk management training as assigned.

  • Adheres to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising service recipients.

  • Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.

  • Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.

Provides camp support and food services

  • Follows the IA State Food Guidelines when assisting in meal preparations and serving food.

  • Assists in planning, ordering food supplies and preparing meals, cold and hot items in large quantities while ensuring sanitation and food safety standards are maintained at high-level production standards for meals.

  • Assists in ordering, receiving and distributing Camp product supplies.

  • Assists in determining quantities and ingredients for food orders and supplies needed for the Kitchen. Ensures necessary items are on hand with minimal waste.

  • Follows through on production deadlines and meets set time parameters of completed duties.

  • Sanitizes equipment and cleans Kitchen, Dining Room and Dish Room

  • Stores leftovers with a description of food item and date.

  • Supervises Boys Town youth in Dining Room, Dish Room and Kitchen duties during chores.

  • Leads youth in the completion of tasks and redirect inappropriate youth behaviors.

  • Ensures proper methods and standard safety practices are met.

  • Maintains the organization and cleanliness of the Camp Building; stocking, cleaning and maintaining organization.

  • Provides basic first aid as needed.

  • Drives Boys Town vehicle as needed to complete duties of the job.

  • Serves as a role model in carrying out activities and behaviors that reflect the values and principles of the Boys Town mission.

  • Monitors the safety of all equipment, youth and employees during recreational activities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of food safety regulations, techniques and equipment for food products, including food storage/handling.

  • Knowledge of the Boys Town Model.

  • Ability to communicate in an articulate, professional manner while maintaining a necessary degree of confidentiality.

  • Ability to use kitchen appliances and utensils to complete food preparation.

  • Knowledge of basic math skills required to ensure accuracy of recorded yields.

  • Ability to accept and give feedback and work as a team.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 19 years of age required.

  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record required.

  • Pass an annual Motor Vehicle Registration (MVR) check required.

  • First Aid Certification required. (Boys Town will provide First Aid Certification course if not already certified).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3 Months minimum kitchen experience preferred.

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
