About the role

Overview

General Dynamics Electric Boat, the nation's premier designer and builder of nuclear submarines, is seeking a Chief of Warehousing and Transportation for 2nd Shift at the Quonset Point Facility.

 

This position reports to the Manager of Material Management and is responsible for the receipt, warehousing, distribution, and storage of all purchased, manufactured, and Government Furnished Materials across two departments at the facility. The Chief of Transportation and Warehousing (Dept. 933/950) ensures all aspects of department performance in the areas of safety, quality, cost, schedule and continuous improvement, while promoting productivity, efficiency and best warehousing/transportation practices.

 

 Key responsibilities:

  • Coordinate with external customers and internal partners/stakeholders
  • Ensure first-time quality of products and services
  • Promote safety, accountability, and process improvements
  • Identify and implement corrective actions to address operational deficiencies
  • Drive teamwork and create efficiencies in business operations
  • Develop and mentor staff to enhance team performance
  • Support Focus Factory oversight and develop warehousing and manning plans
  • Collaborate with Facility Ops management, Planning/Production Control, Groton counterparts, EB Purchasing, Material Ordering Team (MOT), Engineering, and various Program Offices
  • Engage with SUPSHIP and NRRO personnel on material and logistics matters

This position oversees all aspects of warehousing and transportation functions, ensuring safety, compliance, and adherence to policies and procedures. Driving safe work practices and 200% accountability are top priorities, while continuously improving material conveyance at Electric Boat.

 

This is a 2nd shift position located at the Quonset Point facility in North Kingstown, RI.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Candidate must have a minimum of 3 years of experience in warehousing/material control and at least 2 years of supervisory experience 
  • Must understand safe operating procedures for various forklifts as well as understand and be able to work with EB Inventory Tracking system
  • Must be very well versed in warehousing concepts and business systems
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the department of defense
  • Must be available to work all shifts (1st, 2nd & 3rd)
  • Ability to understand and be able to learn Microsoft Excel, Word, Power-Point

Preferred: 

  • Prior experience at Quonset Point is highly desirable
  • Strong Working knowledge of EB business systems (MRP, EWP, ITS, Jcals, BOB, Power BI, Pitch Catch)
  • An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree 
  • Navy/Military
  • Shipyard Experience
  • BLG & FLG graduates are highly desirable

Skills

  • Candidates must have very strong computer skills (MS Office)
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills interfacing with hourly, salary, and upper management
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
