Job summary

If you have the vision, drive and enthusiasm to help deliver an exciting modern pharmacy service and are a clinical pharmacist with at least 9 months post-registration experience in hospital pharmacy, or can demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge and are ready for the next step in your career then this could be the job for you.

Working across Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull hospital sites, 9-month speciality rotations include acute asthma, acute and general medicine, respiratory, infectious diseases, general surgery, nutrition, specialist surgery and critical care and renal

Dependent on experience, the role is offered as a development role and is open to candidates who have completed at least 2-3 early year pharmacist rotations and have started a clinical diploma/consistently meet the level expected of a post-registration foundation pharmacist within the NHSE Newly Qualified Pharmacist Pathway. You will move into the full Senior Support Pharmacist role once you have completed the required competencies to demonstrate you are working at a senior support level

Applicants with 12 months post-registration hospital experience will be appointed in a development post under Agenda for Change Annex 21, uplifted to band 7 starting pay as per Agenda for Change on completion of the first year of clinical diploma or NQPP. All applicants will then be given the opportunity to progress onto the independent prescribing course

Positions include full-time permanent/12 months fixed term/job share.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

You will deliver a high quality specialist clinical pharmacy service, and there will be a strong emphasis on supporting you in developing leadership and mentoring skills to the next level.

You will be introduced to core directorate activities - reporting and analysis of medicines expenditure, clinical governance and risk management activities, including review of PGDs and relevant policies. You will have the opportunity to train clinically to provide a neonatal intensive care service and neonatal parenteral nutrition.

In addition you will take on enhanced roles relating to education and training, such as developing training programmes and involvement with training of new doctors. You will have responsibility for the supervision of less experienced members of the team including junior pharmacists and trainee pharmacists.

Qualifications

Essential

*Vocational Master's degree in pharmacy (or equivalent relevant qualification)

*Has completed or is near completion (within the next 6 months) a postgraduate clinical pharmacy qualification.

*To be willing to work towards a non-medical prescribing qualification

*Membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)

Experience

Essential

*Post-registration work experience as a pharmacist in hospital pharmacy, covering a range of specialties, or the ability to demonstrate the equivalent level of knowledge

*Previous participation in multi- disciplinary team

*Demonstrates commitment and enthusiasm for providing high quality pharmaceutical care

*Experience of teaching/presenting to other healthcare professionals/patients
