The University of Southern California (USC) Department of Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking a Manager, Research Facilitation & Applications (RFA) Team with an exceptional commitment to service excellence to join our team.
As the Manager, Research Facilitation & Applications Team, you will be an integral member of the Center for Advanced Research Computing (CARC) while reporting to the Associate Chief Research Information Officer. This is a full-time, nonexempt position, eligible all USC Benefits + Perks available to its tenure such as comprehensive medical coverage, generous retirement matching, and free tuition.
This Manager, Research Facilitation & Applications Team will direct research project(s) and supervises other computer scientists on a project basis. The Manager, RFA Team provides research support on problems of a diverse scope and executes research projects in collaboration with others. The Manager, RFA Team generates research ideas and solutions to complex computer science problems. Additionally, the Manager, RFA Team develops research funding and manages project budgets.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate for the position of Manager, Research Facilitation & Applications Team must meet the following qualifications:
A doctorate advanced degree in computer science, information science or related science and engineering fields.
A minimum of 7 years of related professional experience, although combined experience/education may substitute for minimum work experience.
Demonstrated supervisory skills as part of related experience.
Demonstrated ability to conceptualize research directions, exert technical leadership, communicate technical ideas, coordinate individual contributions to a research program, and present research plans and results in a manner that will elicit favorable funding actions.
A record of outstanding research contributions and experience in an area of computer science, technical proficiency, exceptional creativity, successful collaboration with others, and independent thought. Demonstrated reputation as an emerging leader in field with sustained performance and accomplishment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Exceptional candidates for the position of Manager, Research Facilitation & Applications Team will also bring the following qualifications or more:
Demonstrated knowledge of the research process, proposal lifecycle, data lifecycle, and workflows.
Advanced knowledge of high-performance computing, high-performance networking, and domain-specific applications to support collaborative research.
Experience with user training, developing and teaching education programs.
Proven ability to successfully manage and prioritize multiple projects and plans, implement project specifications, report project status, identify delays, and raise concerns.
Exceptional interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a variety of stakeholders including researchers, IT staff, IT leadership, and university administrators.
SCOPE OF THE ROLE:
The Manager, Research Facilitation & Applications Team will:
Manage the Research Facilitation and Application Team at the Center for Advanced Research Computing at USC.
Build and maintain collaborative relationships with team members, peers and department leaders. Support the vision for the Center for Advanced Research Computing (CARC). Work closely with team members and management to implement and support effective solutions for research community.
Support collaborative research efforts at the institutional, regional, and national levels to identify and promote research and development opportunities in support of the university's strategic research plan.
Investigate and address researcher inquiries, and present complex technical concepts in simple, straightforward manners. Engage with and encourages RFA team staff to support and collaborate on initiatives as needed.
