Job Overview
Shriners Children's is the premier pediatric burn, orthopaedic, spinal cord injury, cleft lip and palate, and pediatric subspecialties medical center. We are seeking a Clinical Laboratory Manager to provide day-to-day oversight and coordination of high complexity WGS based clinical testing. This individual will be responsible for a broad range of processes from sample receipt to result reporting under supervision of the CLIA laboratory director with a strong focus on quality management and timely delivery of results. Additional responsibilities include transitioning novel tests into production and ongoing quality improvement. This role involves managing testing personnel and the successful candidate will have a proven track record of leading teams.
Responsibilities
- Manage CLIA laboratory workflows for NGS and other technologies that are part of the clinical test.
- Function as principal technical advisor for technologies involved in the genetic testing workflow, help troubleshoot problems
- Coordinate progress of clinical cases through the lab, troubleshoot difficult or atypical cases, and manage turnaround time delays as needed.
- Day to day management of the QC/QA/QI program including training and competency assessments, SOP management, and proficiency testing.
- Supervision of testing personnel including performance appraisals, developing employee skills to ensure they are working towards the organization’s goals.
Qualifications
Experience:
- Significant experience with end-to-end NGS workflows including confirmatory assays (e.g. Sanger sequencing, MLPA or other CNV detection assays) is required.
- Good English oral and written communication skills
- Prior experience as a supervisor in a CLIA laboratory setting preferred
- Experience in post-analytical data processing including genomic variant classification preferred
- Basic bioinformatics skills and/or competency in managing complex data preferred
Education Required:
- Masters' Degree in a relevant scientific or clinical discipline
