Position Summary:

 

Reporting to the Senior Director of Health, SONA, the incumbent will serve as a catalyst for successful implementation of Special Olympics International (SOI) health projects focused within the North American Region (SONA), including SO Programs in the US, Canada, and the Caribbean.

 

Special Olympics International (SOI) is an NGO providing sports training and competition to more than 5 million people with intellectual and development disabilities (IDD) in over 170 countries. Best known for its engagement around sports, SOI also has a robust health team with a global health strategy directed towards promoting equity and reducing health disparities for the 5 million athletes and 80 million people with IDD around the world through four strategic activities:

 

• Preventive care services, including early intervention for those under 8 years of age, fitness programs and public health promotion activities (Primary Prevention).
• Assessment services, directed at preventive health screenings and early detection of the most common conditions for people with IDD, and developing person centered care coordination and connections to mitigate those conditions (Secondary Prevention and Access to Care).
• Training services, to engage the health care and Public Health workforce using evidence-based learning activities that employ virtual and hands-on interactions to improve quality of care. (Workforce Capacity Building)
• Promoting IDD-Inclusive health systems reform through partnerships with providers and government organizations and promoting strong self-advocacy (Systems Change).

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

• Support the successful implementation of health work executed by the SO Programs in the SONA region through ongoing communication with the SOI Headquarters Pillar leads, engagement with SO Programs, and engagement of state and national system partners.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for a cohort of up to 20 SO Programs, maintaining situational awareness of the capacity of those Programs, and helping to communicate opportunities, mitigate challenges, and amplify successes.
• Review and support successful subgrant applications, project execution, and backend reporting.
• Be an engaged member of the SONA Health Team, working collaboratively with the other three SONA Senior Health Managers.
• Lead projects with external partners focused on health system transformation that do not directly engage SO Programs in a manner that does not disenfranchise SO Programs but rather encourages opportunities for them to engage as they are prepared to do so.
• Imagine and share strategies to advance IDD-inclusive health system transformation in the SONA region and review and provide input on those strategies that are proposed or already in practice.
• Be an engaged team member of the larger SONA team, including Sports, UCS, Communications, and Organizational Development, identifying and supporting integrative strategies across the units.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

• Bachelor’s degree in public health or closely related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of combined professional experience in one or more of the following areas: 1.) Public Health Agencies or Systems, 2.) Healthcare Systems, 3.) Other Agencies or Systems addressing Social Determinants of Health at the state or national level, including but not limited to Special Olympics Programs.
• Capable of high levels of consistency, accuracy, professional written and verbal communication, and excellent attention to detail.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a range of individuals from diverse cultures and profession
