SUMMARY:

According to established policies and procedures, the CT Technologist will be responsible for performing and ensuring appropriate quality control, providing requested films of high diagnostic quality based on the specifics of each case, and interacting effectively and professionally with patients, referring physicians/their staff, and fellow employees while maintaining the best possible patient flow and throughput at all times.  Perform related tasks such as assisting patients, maintaining and ordering proper levels of supplies, maintaining cleanliness of work areas, and performing routine clerical functions, as required.

 

SCHEDULE:

  • Monday-Friday at our Johnston, RI clinical location
  • Full-time, 40 hours/week
  • Float position
  • Day shift varies

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform technologist duties at specified times and places, as assigned.
  • Perform required quality control procedures and ensure proper operation of equipment at all times.
  • Must possess, utilize, and maintain knowledge about radiation protection, safety, and current scanning protocols.
  • Coordinate with reception and take the next available patient to ensure efficient patient flow.
  • Receive and greet patients, obtain necessary medical history (including questions relating to any possibility of reaction), and provide patients with procedure instructions/information.
  • Provide and ensure proper protection against radiation exposure by utilizing lead shields in accordance with recognized safety standards.
  • Provide assistance to radiologist, when required.
  • Operate equipment according to specific/recognized procedures and in conformance with established routines and techniques. Review images to ensure acceptable quality and completeness for diagnostic purposes.
  • Responsible for immediately reporting any equipment operation concerns.
  • Provide studies of high-quality and coordinate/communicate with radiologists, referring physicians, and/or their staff, as required.
  • Assess factors that may contraindicate the procedure, such as medications, patient history, patient lab values, insufficient patient preparation, and/or artifacts.
  • Assess patient risk factors to contrast media, including but not limited to allergic reactions and renal insufficiency.
  • Perform venipuncture; verify IV patency and maintain IV access.
  • Utilize accessory equipment including, but not limited to the power injector, colon insufflator, and AED.
  • Perform QA/QC as required to complete tasks and/or to help others and ensure proper flow of patients.
  • Perform QA/QC as required for all CT-related equipment in accordance with RIMI and ACR guidelines.
  • Handle patients in a caring, courteous, and professional manner at all times. Evaluate patient ability to tolerate requested exam(s) and ability to properly respond to contrast media reactions that may occur.
  • Ensure that images, examination requisitions, and other related records are properly completed with the correct patient identification, statistical, and billing information. Ensure that additional studies are properly documented and authorized by the offices of referring physician.
  • Order necessary supplies to ensure continuous and efficient operation of the unit, as needed.
  • During lulls in technical duties, coordinate with reception and other personnel to provide additional assistance in other areas (patient registration, patient scheduling, answering telephones, posting charges, retrieving files, file relocation, etc.)
  • Responsible for maintaining complete and organized records of all completed and requested equipment repairs.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information at all times; refrain from giving diagnosis or exam outcome information to the patient.
  • Responsible for overall cleanliness of the office and clinical areas at all times.
  • Assist other technologists, as needed.
  • Willingness and ability to cross-train in other modalities.
  • Additional duties and projects, as assigned.

 

BASIC KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to perform exams as outlined by governing bodies and RIMI protocol.
  • Physical dexterity, strength, and ability to properly position patients and operate all types of CT and related equipment.
  • Conceptual ability to determine means of providing requested studies based on the specifics of each case.
