The Role
We are seeking a motivated individual to join the Co-Op Program within RNA Science. In this role, you will focus on understanding the mechanisms of RNA degradation to support the advancement of Moderna’s mRNA pipeline. The researcher will be heavily involved in the design and execution of cell-based experiments to evaluate the effect of modified mRNAs on expression and stability. This role will involve the execution of techniques such as tissue culture, transfections/electroporations, live cell imaging, RNA extraction, and RT-qPCR. The projects will be aimed at customizing mRNA therapies for various modalities that span from Rare disease to Immuno-oncology.
The candidate must be self-motivated and possess the desire to drive a project to completion. Candidates must be flexible and comfortable working in a first-paced, team-oriented environment. Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Bioengineering-related majors are strongly encouraged to apply.
Our Co-Op Program runs from July 21, 2025 – December 12, 2025. Candidates must be available for the entire duration of the program.
Here’s What You’ll Do
Work on a personal project that directly impacts the progress of Moderna’s mRNA therapeutic platform
Design, conduct and troubleshoot in-vitro/ex-vivo/cell-based experiments independently and/or in collaboration with colleagues
Learn and perform multiple experimental techniques including tissue culture, cell transfection, live cell imaging, RT-qPCR, and other biochemical assays
Contribute to data analysis and interpretation of study results
Perform literature searches to contribute to current understanding of the technology
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of experiments in electronic laboratory notebook
Present your work/project(s) at group meetings and at a final poster session
Additional duties as may be assigned from time to time
Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications)
Minimum GPA of 3.5
Currently enrolled in any accredited college or university (Freshman-Senior)
Previous co-op or internship experience is preferred, but not necessary
Experience/exposure to lab work preferred, but not necessary
Major in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, or bioengineering strongly preferred
