Definition of Class

The Department of Human Resources seeks a Human Resources Assistant to perform various reception and administrative tasks supporting our department’s daily activities.

 

This position performs a variety of personnel functions in support of institution-wide human resources administration. The incumbent processes personnel documents, generates and validates reports; answers general personnel questions, coordinates work assignments within a specialty area and assists other areas as needed. This position reports to an administrative supervisor.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Greets visitors for the Department of Human Resources while maintaining a positive, welcoming presence at our reception area (HR Welcome Hub) and in all interactions.
  • Properly handles customer requests through responsiveness, follow-up, and escalation. Serves as first point of contact (in-person) for faculty, staff and student employees.
  • Provides general office support for team members of the Department of Human Resources. Accepts assignments from multiple staff members from all areas of the department.
  • Develops a working knowledge of HR information systems and searchable resources.  Utilizes the department website to gain knowledge and to answer frequently asked questions.
  • Prepares correspondences. Using proper grammar and utilizing customer service skills, composes effective email communications.
  • Works proactively with other team members, including offering assistance during non-peak times.
  • Receives, sorts, and distributes office mail, reports, and other materials; processes outgoing mail and prepares mailings.
  • Assists in the development, coordination and/or operation of assigned programs or projects.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following. Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

  1. Processes and verifies employee data and maintains employee records.
  2. Verifies personnel data and/or reports.
  3. Answers general human resources questions from the campus community.
  4. Prepares correspondence.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).

 

AND

 

Experience:
One (1) year of experience related to the above described duties.

Salary/Wage Information

Human Resources Assistant hourly pay range: $14.29/hr - $18.34/hr
