Job Description Summary
This is an exciting time at Sunbelt Rentals. Our parent company, Ashtead Group plc—a $10bn revenue, UK FTSE 50 publicly listed company—has announced plans to relist on the NYSE and rebrand as Sunbelt Rentals. As the world’s second largest equipment rental group, Sunbelt Rentals operates over 1,500 stores across the US, Canada, and the UK, employing more than 25,000 people and serving a diverse customer base with a full range of construction and industrial equipment.
The Director, IT – Customer Digital Technologies will lead the end-to-end development and delivery of customer-facing technologies to maximize the user experience through data-driven analysis, CRM, A/B testing, CMS, and competitive intelligence tools. The role partners with cross-functional teams to align deliverables, drive sprint planning, and ensure seamless system integrations, supporting Sunbelt Rentals’ continued growth and digital transformation in a dynamic, global environment.
Position Responsibilities:
Oversee product roadmap delivery and cross-team planning to meet commitments
Manage resources, budgets, and timelines for initiatives
Ensure operational readiness (alerts, dashboards, reporting) and vendor performance
Partner with IT, security, and business units to create innovative solutions
Guide technical feasibility and feature prioritization with product and XD teams
Ensure solutions meet enterprise architecture standards
Lead internal and external teams to deliver advanced solutions
Monitor progress, mitigate risks, and adjust plans as needed
Oversee release planning, production defect resolution, and SOX/GITC audit controls
Responsible for customer platforms (CMS, commerce, search, PIM, CIAM, B2B integration, MarTech, LMS, messaging)
Responsible for portfolio budget management
Requirements:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in information technology or equivalent plus 15 years of digital technology leadership experience in a global organization
Proven ability to set vision, build roadmaps, and deliver results
Deep knowledge of eCommerce, CMS, mobile, CRM, data infrastructure, and scalable systems
Expert-level understanding of systems integration, web services, micro services, cloud architecture/services (Azure)
Experience with omnichannel, negotiating with stakeholders, and managing large budgets
Mastery in .NET, React, CI/CD, microservices, REST, containers, APIs preferred
Database experience (SQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, Graph, Mongo/Redis) preferred
Deep understanding of Adobe commerce stack (AEM, Commerce, Marketo, etc.) is required
Physical Demands:
Must be able to bend, squat, crouch and/or reach and lift up to 25 pounds or more, as required by the job. Some Sunbelt jobs may require driving for long periods of time, loading and unloading heavy equipment, performing work in extreme weather conditions including rain, wind or excessive temperatures and/or night and weekend work.
