This role can be remote. 

As a Sr. Specialist Solutions Architect (Sr. SSA) - Data Engineering, you will guide customers in building big data solutions on Databricks that span a large variety of use cases. You will be in a customer-facing role, working with and supporting Solution Architects, that requires hands-on production experience with Apache Spark™ and expertise in other data technologies.  Sr. SSAs help customers through complex design and successful implementation of essential workloads while aligning their technical roadmap for expanding the usage of the Databricks Lakehouse Platform. As a deep go-to-expert reporting to the Specialist Field Engineering Manager, you will materially contribute to our business beyond your account work.

The impact you will have:

  • Propose production ready architectures using novel patterns and leveraging non-standard components to address customer requirements
  • Supervise junior colleagues in writing production-grade code and teach them best practices of moving workloads to production
  • Serve as the trusted technical advisor to technical leads and executives
  • Originate and drive initiatives to improve efficiency beyond your immediate team 
  • Contribute to Databricks' technical community engagement by developing customer-facing collateral and leading workshops, seminars, and meet-ups

What we look for:

  • 7+ years experience in a customer-facing technical role with expertise in the following areas:
    • Software Engineer/Data Engineer: data ingestion, streaming technologies - such as Spark Streaming and Kafka, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and debugging Spark or other big data solutions
    • Data Applications Engineer: Build use cases that use data - such as risk modeling, fraud detection, customer life-time value
  • Extensive experience building data pipelines using big data technologies such as Spark/Delta or Hadoop
  • Maintain and extend production data systems to evolve with complex needs
  • Production programming experience in SQL and Python, Scala, or Java
  • Deep Specialty Expertise in:
    • Scaling big data workloads that are performant and cost-effective
    • Development Tools for CI/CD, Unit and Integration testing, Automation and Orchestration, REST API, BI tools and SQL Interfaces (e.g. Jenkins)
    • Designing data solutions on cloud infrastructure and services, such as AWS, Azure, or GCP using best practices in cloud security and networking
    • Implementing industry specific data analytics use cases
  • [Desired] Degree in a quantitative discipline (Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Operations Research)
  • Ability to travel up to 30% when needed

Pay Range Transparency

The pay range(s) for this role is listed below and represents base salary range for non-commissionable roles or on-target earnings for commissionable roles.  Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, relevant certifications and training, and specific work location. Based on the factors above, Databricks utilizes the full width of the range. The total compensation package for this position may also include eligibility for annual performance bonus, equity, and the benefits listed above.
