BWXT is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer Intern for its Advanced Technologies location in Lynchburg, Virginia!

As a Summer Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic and collaborative environment. You will work closely with our engineering team to support the design, development, and testing of mechanical systems, with a specific focus on controls and programming. This internship is designed to provide you with valuable industry knowledge and practical skills that will enhance your career in mechanical engineering.
This position is an in-person position located in Lynchburg, Virginia. Housing stipend is available for eligible interns.
Job Duties / Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design and development of mechanical systems with a strong emphasis on control systems.
- Support the integration of control systems into mechanical designs.
- Conduct testing and analysis of control systems and mechanical components.
- Participate in programming tasks related to control systems, with a preference for C language.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project success.
- Prepare technical reports and documentation.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to project discussions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications / Requirements:
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Strong understanding of control systems and their applications in mechanical engineering.
- Proficiency in programming, with a preference for C language.
- Experience with mechatronics and hands-on hardware projects is a plus.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Self-motivated and eager to learn.
- Must be a U.S. citizen with no dual citizenship.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required.
