Become a Systems Analyst at the City of Ventura

The City of Ventura is seeking a highly motivated and customer-focused Systems Analyst I/II to join our team. We're looking for a critical thinker and a poised communicator who can bridge the gap between technology and business, ensuring our systems not only work but actively empower our users.

In this key role, you'll be the voice of both the user and the technologist. Your primary goal will be to understand our business's needs, solve complex problems, and ensure our enterprise-wide software systems provide the greatest possible benefit. This isn't just about identifying issues — it's about proactively diagnosing, correcting, and improving our systems.

What you'll do:

  • Solve complex problems: You'll dive deep into our business processes to understand how our systems support the organization. You'll gather information from users, analyze their experiences, and guide them toward the best solutions.

  • Communicate with confidence: You'll translate complex technical information into clear, conversational terms for both technical and non-technical audiences, setting expectations while building trust and strong relationships.

  • Be a technical leader: You'll work independently and as part of a collaborative team, designing and testing solutions, defining application problems, and evaluating procedures. While you’ll occasionally be hands-on with code, you’ll need strong skills to review, analyze, and understand it within the context of the overall technology landscape.

  • Drive improvement: You'll hold user group meetings, observe system use, and recommend business process improvements to ensure our deployed solutions meet requirements and exceed expectations.

  • Office: You will work at City Hall in downtown Ventura at least three days per week, with the remainder of your schedule potentially eligible for remote work based on performance and operational needs.

We're looking for someone with:

  • Experience managing and supporting large enterprise application systems (e.g., ERP).

  • Skills in Microsoft SQL Server and an understanding of programming logic.

  • The ability to think critically and provide timely information to stakeholders, helping them make accurate decisions.

  • A clear understanding of how the components of business information systems work together.

  • Experience with document collaboration and management tools.

Ready to make a real impact on how the City of Ventura operates? If you're passionate about technology and dedicated to empowering users, we encourage you to apply.

This classification is flexibly staffed, and the position may be filled at either level depending on the qualifications of the incumbent and the staffing needs of the city.
