The Position

2025 Summer Intern - System Development

We advance science so that we all have more time with the people we love.

The hired intern  will help in creating and developing new sequencing technologies. Contributions to projects may include wet bench work, experimental design, data collection, data analysis, and scripting for automation and analysis. They will learn to use sequencing instrumentation and related instrumentation to facilitate the experimental work developing these systems. Technical knowledge from engineering and scientific disciplines will be used to develop new ideas and troubleshoot processes and hardware. They will conduct feasibility studies of the design to determine ability to function as intended. They will maintain detailed documentation throughout all phases of research and development.

Department Summary

Roche Sequencing Solutions has the ambitious goal of disrupting Next Generation DNA Sequencing. Our technology fuses active biological and solid state elements to bring single molecule based sequence detection to scale. These new technologies aim to make genetic testing easy, reliable, and affordable. They seek to improve the lives of people in a wide variety of applications, including the timely screening of newborns for diseases and the diagnosis of cancers and infectious diseases.

We are seeking a motivated and team-oriented individual who is passionate about contributing to and learning about sequencing technology.  You will learn how to use the new Roche Single Molecule Sequencing platform and related Roche-developed instrumentation, and then help to improve instrument performance and protocols. Novel approaches may be utilized to help characterize the sequencing instruments, and the candidate will have an opportunity to both develop these approaches and learn a variety of wet bench, software, and data analysis skills. The candidate will help design and perform wet-lab experiments to further develop the sequencing instrumentation, followed by subsequent analysis, interpretation, and presentation of the data. The candidate must be self-motivated and able to work well in a team environment.

This internship position is located in Santa Clara, on-site.
