A Day in the Life
In this exciting role as a Sr. Principal R&D Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, prototyping, testing, and iterating concepts supporting new product development in a cross-functional team environment. This effort will extend throughout all design phases, through product launch, commercialization activities and in providing support to the sustaining engineering teams as required.The Surgical Operating Unit (SOU) strives to enable earlier diagnosis, better treatment, faster complication-free recovery, and enhanced patient outcomes through less invasive surgical solutions. The Surgical Instrument Center of Excellence sets the standard for MIS by creating innovative surgical products and services.
Preferred qualifications:
• Direct Medical Device development experience.
• Thorough knowledge of EM navigation systems architecture and integration on mechanical systems.
• Deep understanding of EM sensor properties and test method development.
• Understanding Radio Frequency energy and use in surgery.
• Working knowledge of laboratory equipment, instrumentation and analysis tools.
• Working knowledge of statistical analysis and design of experiments driving optimization of materials and processes.
• Trained/Certified in Lean and/or 6 Sigma principles
• Experience with Jump or Minitab statistical software and tools
• Working knowledge of human anatomy, soft tissue and lung bronchoscopy procedures
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
- Designs, develops, analyzes, troubleshoots and provides technical skills during research and/or product development.
- Designs studies to investigate specific life science questions within field of expertise.
- May be involved in product research and development and/or clinical trials.
- Translates research discoveries into usable and marketable products.
