About the role

Description

Clemson University’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management (PRTM) seeks applicants for a nine-month non-tenure-track Senior Lecturer of Tourism and Events Management (TEM). This position is available starting in August 2026.

We seek a faculty member who will continue TEM’s excellence in teaching and community engagement with community tourism agencies in South Carolina and the region. Preference will be given to candidates who have classroom teaching and/or community-based education experience in one or more of the following TEM areas: community tourism development; tourism management; agritourism; rural tourism; sustainable tourism; tourism planning; or related areas.

The successful candidate must have the ability to teach undergraduate courses in the Tourism and Events Management emphasis area.

The successful candidate will also have experience working with community-based tourism agencies, destination management organizations, South Carolina tourism bureaus, and other community tourism stakeholders, be able to initiate and sustain partnerships for teaching, experiential learning, and community-engaged scholarship, and serve as the primary contact for South Carolina and regional tourism projects and initiatives. Candidates for the position will be expected to collaborate with faculty across the PRTM department, College of Behavioral, Social, and Health Sciences, and broader university in the area of sustainable and rural tourism, seek and secure external funding to support state tourism initiatives, contribute to the undergraduate and graduate curriculum, explore opportunities for program development, mentor graduate students through theses and dissertations, engage in departmental, college, and University service, and carry out other departmental duties as required. The ability to travel throughout the state to connect with community tourism partners is an essential job function.

Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management or related field by August 2026
  •  Evidence of the ability to teach in formal or informal educational settings, including credit- and/or non-credit based learning experiences
  • Evidence of related experience in the tourism industry, with a specific focus on tourism development and planning, community-based tourism, agritourism, and/or rural tourism, preferably in the state of South Carolina.
  • Evidence of the ability to develop, initiate, sustain, and evaluate community-engaged initiatives related to tourism in South Carolina and the region, including community-engaged scholarship.
  • Willingness to travel within the state of South Carolina to develop, initiate, and evaluate community tourism partnerships.
