Required Qualifications (as evidenced by attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Three (3) years of full-time experience in the area of athletic performance, strength and conditioning, and/or personal training (student experience may be considered). Current certification of either C.S.C.S. (Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist) or S.C.C.C. (Strength & Conditioning Coach Certified).
Preferred Qualifications:
Additional years (4+) of full time experience in the field of athletic performance, strength and conditioning, and/or personal training (student experience may be considered). Experience at the collegiate level. Experience supervising students, interns, and/or graduate assistants. Experience with administrative tasks within the field of athletic performance and/or strength and conditioning. Experience working with a basketball program in the area of athletic performance and/or strength and conditioning (including as a player or coach). Previous experience with a Division 1 Athletic program.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Director of Athletic Performance will work to develop the physical strength, endurance, flexibility, and agility of Division I athletes. Additional responsibilities will include designing a program customized to the sport’s specific needs, maintenance of the varsity weight training facility, coordination and cooperation with the athletic training staff. Incumbent will be responsible for the oversight of a variety of administrative tasks associated with the efficient operation of a Division I athletic program. The Director will assume all responsibilities in the absence of the Assistant Director of Athletics for Athletic Performance.
Student-Athlete Performance Teaching, Education & Program Development:
The primary responsibility of the Director is to instruct the student-athletes on Athletic Performance. Incumbent will work with the physical training and instruction of student-athletes, which includes, but is not limited to, supervising programs focusing on strength training, cardiovascular fitness, agility training, flexibility, balance, safety, physical health and wellness, and teamwork. Incumbent must work with the staff in order to schedule the student-athletes for their sessions in the varsity weight facility throughout the summer and academic year. The Director will assist the Assistant AD for Athletic Performance in creating a positive atmosphere in the weight-training facility and a culture of dedication and commitment to the strength program. The position will develop a customized year-round Athletic Performance program for assigned sports, which includes creating and tailoring each program to the gender, sport-specific needs, and physical abilities of the student-athletes.
Student-Athlete Evaluation:
Responsible for implementing the evaluation tool for all training and rehabilitation sessions, which will gauge the progress of all student-athletes in the Athletic Performance program. This may involve providing written logs and reports to the Head Coach, Assistant AD, and/or athletic trainers.
Sport Science Data Management:
Serve as the primary point of contact for Kinexon and other performance monitoring technologies, while collecting, analyzing, and interpreting both external and internal load metrics such as player load, distance, accelerations, and high-intensity efforts. Translate sports science data into clear, actionable insights for coaches and athletic trainers, and provide daily and weekly input on practice planning, training volume, intensity, and recovery strategies based on objective data and athlete response.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Responsible for leading a wide variety of administrative tasks as assigned by the Assistant AD, which include, but are not limited to, team scheduling, budget preparation & administration, facility usage, public relations, fundraising, community service, and other daily operations for the program. Incumbent is required to work independently with various support services in the Department of Athletics and campus constituents (i.e., Athletic Training, Business Office, & Dining Services, etc.) in carrying out these tasks.
