About the role
As a Database Administrator joining JP Morgan with Global Shares you will have the opportunity to work with the latest cloud database technologies. You will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical Databases. This is a “hands-on” position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Job responsibilities
- Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product life cycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.
- Ensure all database servers are backed up in a way that meets the business’s Recovery Point Objectives (RPO).
- Test backups to ensure we can meet the business’ Recovery Time Objectives (RTO).
- Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
- Support cloud based systems and integrations.
- Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
- Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes.
- Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement.
- Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities occasionally after hours.
- Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members.
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- SQL Server running on Azure including VM and PAAS.
- Knowledge of implementing Azure and latest SQL Server offerings on Azure.
- Experience of Designing and Implementing High Availability and Disaster Recovery for SQL Server Infrastructure.
- Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and/or free community tools.
- Experience with GIT or similar source code repositories.
- Experience working with a Devops approach e.g. Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery.
- Experience with scripting related to SQL Server including PowerShell.
- Flexible, team player, “get-it-done” personality.
- Ability to organize and plan work independently.
- Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment.
- Ability to multi-task and context-switch effectively between different activities and teams.
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- SQL Server on Azure (VM & PAAS)
- Experience with Performance Tuning
- Experience with HA/Availability Groups
- Experience with CDC
- Knowledge of Postgres
- Ideally you will also have experience with, Encryption with TDE or TLS, knowledge of PowerShell for Automating, Grafana, ADF, Octopus or Jenkins and Kubernetes or Linux
