Full timeJOB SUMMARY:
Senior Revenue Examiners working in the City of Homewood are responsible for overseeing and coordinating the enforcement of municipal and state revenue laws. They conduct inspections of businesses and residences within assigned territories to verify proper business classifications, determine tax liabilities, ensure compliance with licensing requirements, and gather other pertinent revenue-related information. When applicable, they also process various applications related to business operations—such as business licenses and special event permits—and are responsible for the collection of relevant taxes, including but not limited to occupational, liquor, ad valorem, lease, and lodging taxes.In their supervisory capacity, Senior Revenue Examiners provide guidance and direction to Revenue Examiners and clerical staff, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in daily operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position:
Option A
Valid Driver's license.
Experience performing license and tax inspection including the following: inspection; calculating, collecting, and verifying application fees; processing business operation applications; and assisting taxpayers.
Customer service experience (e.g., face to face or over the phone to handle complaints, research information, provide guidance).
Experience researching, interpreting, and applying information related to applicable tax laws and/or codes (e.g., Code of AL Title 40).
Experience acting as a lead worker or in a supervisory capacity.
OR
Option B
Valid Driver's license.
Experience as a Revenue Examiner within the Merit System.
Experience acting as a lead worker or in a supervisory capacity.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications deemed desirable by the City of Homewood. These qualifications may be considered by Homewood when reviewing applications and inviting candidates to participate in subsequent steps in the selection process.
Certified Revenue Examiner/Officer and/or Municipal Revenue Officer.
Bachelor's degree in business, public administration, accounting, or a related field.
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:
Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work, directing staff in their job duties, monitoring progress of work, providing feedback and/or training.
Oversees the revenue administration process by accepting and reviewing applications and documentation related to tax, revenue and licenses/bonds for proper reporting.
Communicates and collaborates with various parties and organizations (e.g., department heads, employees, citizens, board and council members, vendors) by responding to inquiries, tracking internal and external communications, and drafting correspondence to disseminate and receive information related to department/organization activity to ensure notification and compliance.
Performs residential and commercial revenue inspections by conducting site visits, reviewing financial and tax documents, and issuing citations using established guidelines to ensure compliance with city, state, and/or county tax and license laws.
Performs various administrative activities by creating and updating files, maintaining documents, and tracking information using various forms and computer systems in order to maintain records and document organization/department activities.
Provides service to internal and/or external customers.
Engages in activities designed to ensure professional development, awareness of developments in the field, and knowledge of relevant practices, rules, laws, policies, and/or guidelines.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
