As a Staff Mechanical Designer in the R&D group, you will develop innovative and complex opto-mechanical solutions that also encompass fluidic, thermal and optical disciplines that contribute to our world-class instrumentation portfolio. Furthermore, you will apply working knowledge of good mechanical design documentation to accelerate product development of world-class scientific research instruments. You will proactively partner with mechanical, optical and fluid systems engineers to develop new designs at the component, sub-assembly and full instrument level. Your versatility, proficiency in SolidWorks and PDM systems, and design experience will accelerate our products to market. You will regularly collaborate cross-functionally with Hardware R&D, NPI, Sourcing and Manufacturing to ensure our product documentation is quality and on-time. You will work entirely on a highly visible, business critical product platform through all phases of the development cycle. Previous experience in life science or clinical instrumentation is not required.Job Description

As a Staff Mechanical Designer Engineer in the R&D group, you will develop innovative and sophisticated opto-mechanical solutions that also encompass fluidic, thermal and optical subject areas that contribute to our world-class instrumentation portfolio. Furthermore, you will apply solid understanding of good mechanical design documentation to accelerate product development of world-class scientific research instruments. You will proactively partner with mechanical, optical and fluid systems engineers to develop new designs at the component, sub-assembly and full instrument level. Your versatility and proficiency in SolidWorks, PDM systems, and design experience will accelerate our products to market. You will regularly collaborate multi-functionally with Hardware R&D, NPI, Sourcing and Manufacturing to ensure our product documentation is quality and on-time. You will work entirely on a highly visible, business critical product platform through all phases of the development cycle. Previous experience in life science or clinical instrumentation is not required.
Responsibilities include:
Be an integral contributor within the Mechanical Systems Design team to quickly and efficiency design and document complex instrumentation solutions that include optics, electronics, fluidics and heat management.
Designing, developing, and qualifying new opto-mechanical systems inclusive of mechanical, electronic, and thermal engineering fields based on requirements
Derive system level requirements into sub-assembly engineering specifications
Lead NPI transfer such as BOM creation, Assembly documentation and Change Control
Manage successful 3rd party development and outsourcing
Create and maintain preferred parts to leverage across a platform of new product offerings
Managing your design evolution cleanly using proper design control and PDM tools.
Strategically prioritize, plan and estimate work with limited oversight.
Clearly and objectively connect with R&D peers, leadership, NPI and manufacturing partners.
Ensure compliance to our Global Product Development System and design control requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
B.S. or equivalent experience Degree in Mechanical Engineering
10 years of experience in mechanical engineering subject areas with complex instrument design.
Proven record of complex electro-opto mechanical part design and engineering documentation.
Proven record of ability to develop quality design solutions at component, sub-assembly and full instrument levels (high quality and on time delivery).
Experience applying and learning new engineering tools in the spirit of continuous improvement for design creation, review and management such as CAD Desktop, Cost modeling SW, Ansys
