Purpose Statement
The Line Maintenance Technician's responsibility is to perform mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electronic repair and preventive maintenance on all plant equipment and structure of the facility.
Key Accountabilities and Outcomes
Observes all OSHA and facility safety rules and regulations including use of personal protective equipment. Example: Lock-out/Tag-out, Arc-Flash, Hot Work, Fall Protection, etc.
Follows all established Good Manufacturing Practices, including maintaining an orderly and clean work area. These are intense food manufacturing/food safety programs that are not flexible.
Troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of mechanical and electrical failures. Example: large horizontal mixers, planetary mixers, dough sheeting lines, proofers, fryers, spiral freezers, various conveyors, and packing equipment.
Assures preventive maintenance program is conducted on all plant equipment. Work orders are completed using SAP-based CMMS. Candidates must be comfortable using a computer/tablet documenting their work. This type of work requires a high attention to detail and the ability to look beyond the basic task list on the work order; and the ability to recognize and correct a mechanical or electrical issue before it becomes a problem.
Provides emergency unscheduled repairs of production equipment using mechanical and electrical skills/experience to execute repairs in a timely manner to minimize downtime.
Perform welding, cutting, and soldering using electric and gas equipment. MIG and TIG welding experience on mild and stainless steel is desired.
Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service using existing documentation to execute repairs. This would include hard wire and PLC electrical drawings and mechanical blueprints.
Duties may involve pipe fitting; boiler making; insulting; welding; machining; carpentry; installing; aligning; and balancing new equipment; and repairing buildings, floors, freezers, or stairs.
Employee regularly requires standing, reaching, bending, and moving about the facility.
Vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
Hearing ability to meet manufacturing facility safety requirements.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
High school diploma or GED required. Technical School Diploma with concentration in mechatronics and industrial instrumentation preferred.
Must be able to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical and electrical failures for equipment like horizontal mixers, dough sheeting lines, proofers, conveyors, spiral freezers, etc.
Must be able to read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service including hard wire and PLC electrical drawings and mechanical blueprints.
Must be able to read and understand related diagrams and symbols to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain relay/sequential logic circuitry on a wide variety of equipment.
Must be able to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial drives of varying types; VFDs, AC, DC, servo, stepper, etc.
Must be able to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain low voltage (0 VAC/VDC -- 51 VAC/VDC), Proportional, Integral and Derivative (PID) control loops that support a wide variety of control processes such as temp., pressure, liquid level, motor, etc. controls.
Mult be able to install and wire instrumentation such as pH probes, level transmitters, flow switches, viscometers, conductivity sensors and other instruments.
A high degree of judgment with the ability to look beyond the basic task list on the work order and a high level of attention to details is required.
Must have knowledge of power and hand tools.
