Job Description
The Team:
The Inbound Transportation and Customs department is part of our Global Supply Chain team. This team is responsible for controlling the flow of goods ensuring cargo is offloaded from the aircraft, truck or vessel, it is customs clear so that it can be released to the importer without delay. The containers are then picked up and taken to the DC, where the cargo is segregated and ready to meet the customers fulfillment requirements. In order to meet the requirements, all truck, air and ocean shipments need to clear customs timely and accurately, resolving all entry issues prior to transmission to ensure the DCs has the product ready and issue free for customer orders.
The Opportunity:
As a Customs Compliance Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient
movement of goods across international borders. This position will be responsible for submitting entries via ABI
to various government agencies, ensuring compliance with U.S customs regulations. Responsibilities also
include preparing customs documentation, handling issue resolution, and managing data integrity. This position
will also serve a supporting role in compliance programs such as the Importer Self-Assessment Program,
Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism, as well as ongoing projects as assigned. The role requires an
incumbent who is present, adaptable, and committed to Customs Compliance as a career. The role is
permanently based in our San Bernardino, CA Distribution Center.
What Your Impact Will Be:
- Process Customs Documentation: Accurately and efficiently process all necessary customs documentation for shipments, including but not limited to commercial invoices, customs declarations, Importer Security Filing, and other required documentation.
- Ensure Compliance: Maintain a strong understanding of all international trade regulations and customs procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
- Facilitate Communication: Act as a liaison between manufacturing sources, carriers, and customs authorities to ensure timely and accurate communication throughout the customs clearance process.
- Monitor Shipments: Monitor the movement of shipments and proactively identify and resolve any potential customs delays or issues.
- Coordinate with Carriers: Communicate with carriers to ensure timely pick-up and delivery of shipments and resolve any customs-related issues that may arise.
- Handle Discrepancies: Investigate and resolve any discrepancies in customs documentation to avoid delays and ensure accuracy.
- Maintain Records: Accurately maintain all necessary records and documentation related to customs clearance, including but not limited to import/export records and duty/tax payments.
- Stay Updated: Stay up-to-date on changes in customs regulations and procedures to ensure compliance and efficient processing of shipments.
- Support Importer Programs: Assist in the continuous development of Mattel’s ISA program, including CTPAT, to reinforce the company’s supply chain security.
- Collaborate with Team: Work closely with other team members to ensure smooth and efficient operations and provide additional departmental support, including logistics responsibilities, as needed.
Qualifications
What We’re Looking For:
- HS Diploma required – Associate’s Degree preferred – Bachelor’s Degree a plus
- Certified Customs Specialist (CCS), or other Continuous Education Certificate a plus.
- 2+ years in customs brokerage/compliance
- 2+ years in logistics, freight forwarding. operations, supply chain, or related field.
- Familiarity with AS400, GTKonnect ABI Software, MS Sharepoint, etc.
- Intermediate or above skillset with Microsoft Office Programs including Excel, Word, Powerpoint.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Self Starter: Ability to work independently with good interpersonal skill.
- Organizational skills: Ability to work on multiple concurrent tasks and projects and ability to re-prioritize on a continuous basis.
- Team player: Ability to work well & treat others with respect.
