Senior General Counsel

Our partner is seeking a Senior General Counsel for a leading financial institution based in Plymouth, MI. This position is critical in providing legal counsel to the CEO, Board of Directors, and Executive Leadership members, while overseeing the legal department. The role involves ensuring all operations comply with legal and regulatory standards. The position starts at $160,800 annually, with potential adjustments based on relevant experience and transferrable skills.

Responsibilities

• Offer legal counsel on complex legal matters related to operations, regulatory compliance, and member issues.
• Lead the legal department, including oversight of legal professionals and support staff.
• Collaborate with leadership to provide legal perspectives on strategic initiatives.
• Represent the organization in court proceedings as needed.
• Ensure legal compliance for Board of Directors’ activities, meetings, and documentation.
• Handle responses to legal and regulatory issues, including audits and member litigation.
• Advocate for legislative and industry developments, sharing insights with the organization.
• Negotiate and execute legal contracts.
• Oversee the processing of legal documents, such as levies and garnishments.
• Develop and manage member litigation processes.

Requirements

• Law degree with a concentration in Business Law.
• Successful completion of the Bar examination.
• At least 10 years of legal experience.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in financial or banking compliance.
