Summer 2026 - IT Infrastructure & Security Intern

Ruan is now hiring an IT Infrastructure & Security Intern for Summer 2026.    This is a full-time position that will work a mix of on-site at our downtown Des Moines campus and remote.   The IT Infrastructure & Security Intern will have great exposure to Ruan Technology by helping address basic break/fix issues as they arise and assisting with the installation and testing of network hardware and software installations and upgrades.    Other duties include: 

• Provide infrastructure support for Virtual Server data center environment (95% Windows, 5% Linux) including VDI, web, application, and database servers for the enterprise. Perform trouble ticket resolution within defined SLAs and documented procedures.
• Work with the IT Service Desk, IT teams, Ruan users, Ruan customers and service providers to correct operational exceptions. Escalate infrastructure outages or interruptions to management, if necessary. Ensure mean time to resolution goals are met.
• Administer and support operating systems and related software.  Assist in installing and maintaining infrastructure services such as VDI, print services, communications, application, web and database servers.
• Participate in team and department level projects as required.

  The purpose of the internship position is to develop college students that are pursuing a career in supply chain, transportation, accounting, human resources, IT, or applicable division. Interns may be exposed to a variety of projects and activities that occur within the transportation business. Interns will have the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills learned in college and demonstrate abilities in the workplace. The position is temporary, nonexempt, part-time/hourly.   Carrying out the Company's organizational values and operating in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and Company policies are required functions. Skills required in the following areas:

• Microsoft Windows Server, Microsoft Windows clustering concepts, network load balancing, Microsoft Active Directory, Office365, VMware vSphere, View or ThinApp, Data Center experience including racking and wiring server equipment.
• Excellent problem-solving and planning skills necessary.
• Must have strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to collect and analyze statistical data for simple trend analysis and continuous improvement.
