About the role

Description

The School of Health Professions (SHP) at Stony Brook University invites applicants to apply for the position of Director of Clinical Education in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program. This is a non-tenure track, 12-month faculty appointment at the Clinical Assistant Professor level. The DPT program is delivered on both the Stony Brook University East Campus-Health Sciences Center and on the Southampton Campus. The Director of Clinical Education in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program reports to the Executive Director of Clinical Education and the Chair of the Department of Physical Therapy. 

The Director of Clinical Education will work with the Executive Director of Clinical Education, and in conjunction with the clinical education team to administer the clinical education program across the two campuses. Responsibilities include working together with the clinical education team, acting as a liaison between the program and clinical education sites, initiating and facilitating ongoing development of clinical education sites and clinical faculty, monitoring and refining the clinical education components of the curriculum, managing student placements, supervision and assessment of students during clinical education, visiting clinical sites, assisting with accreditation efforts, and teaching, service, and scholarship to the program at both campuses.

The School of Health Professions offers a three-year Doctor of Physical Therapy degree that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). The program has delivered the highest quality of education for five decades and provides a dynamic learning experience through interdisciplinary and professional collaborative research, relationships with strong community programs, and opportunities to develop scholarly activities both within the program and the healthcare community. The Doctor of Physical Therapy Program is one of six professional programs in the School of Health Professions and offers the DPT program at both the Stony Brook University East Campus-Health Sciences Center and at the Stony Brook Southampton location. Qualifications

Required Qualifications: 

  • Earned degree in physical therapy from an accredited institution

  • Earned master’s degree or higher

  • Licensed (or eligible for licensure) to practice physical therapy in New York State

  • Either:

    • Served as a Clinical Instructor for a minimum of two clinical experiences, or

    • Served as a Site Coordinator of Clinical Education for a minimum of two (2) clinical experiences, or

    • Served as a Site Coordinator of Clinical Education for a minimum of one (1) clinical experience and served as a Clinical Instructor for a minimum of one clinical experience

  • Minimum of three (3) years of physical therapy practice

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Earned academic terminal doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) from a regionally accredited institution (such as PhD, EdD, or DSc); ABD is acceptable

  • Experience as a Director of Clinical Education in an academic PT program

  • Involvement with CAPTE accreditation process

  • Certified in a clinical specialization

  • Credentialed Clinical Instructor from the APTA

  • Experience teaching at the university level
