A Speech Pathologist evaluates patients to determine the causes and effects of various speech, language, cognitive communication, and swallowing disorders that affect patients. They investigate communications disorders and often different kinds of behaviors that manifest with communication difficulties. The Speech Pathologist in this role will care for adult patients over the age of 18 years old. You will work with patients with neuro disorders, dysphagia, and cognitive issues. This is a great hands-on role that will help you feel fulfilled in the work you do each day.
A caregiver in this position works days 8:00AM – 4:30PM, including one weekend per month.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Provide clinical services to patients.
Perform diagnostic speech pathology test procedures.
Evaluate communication and swallowing function of patients.
Interpret and report test results to facilitate medical diagnosis.
Provide counseling and education about communication and the diagnosis to patients and families.
Determine therapeutic plans, including the need for therapy, frequency of treatment, focus for intervention, prognosis and duration of therapy.
Select assistive speech devices to improve the patient’s communication.
Perform re-evaluation to determine progress after therapy.
Provide observations about hearing and other behaviors to help determine the need for other services.
Maintain records of all services.
