Duke University is looking for an ECE Undergraduate Laboratory Manager to join our team. This role is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the university's mission by ensuring the highest quality of instruction in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering’s undergraduate instructional laboratories. You will be instrumental in developing and implementing the vision for labs, coordinating with instructors, and managing laboratory resources.
As an ECE Undergraduate Laboratory Manager, you will:
- Supervise, coordinate, and oversee the undergraduate instructional laboratories: Develop the vision for labs, including instruction, state-of-the-art equipment, and effective space management, in conjunction with the Director of Undergraduate Laboratories (DUL).
- Ensure course needs and resources are met: Coordinate with instructors to ensure that laboratories used for both teaching and undergraduate research are well-equipped and meet course requirements.
- Supervise and manage the laboratory teaching group: Oversee undergraduate and graduate teaching assistants, providing necessary support to ensure the highest quality of instruction in ECE courses and laboratories.
- Act as an advisor to subordinates: Help meet schedules and resolve technical issues in the undergraduate teaching laboratories, recommending various personnel actions including hiring, performance appraisal, promotions, transfers, and vacation schedules.
- Develop and administer the ECE undergraduate teaching laboratory budget: Manage schedules and performance requirements, ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Serve as a liaison: Ensure best overall practices through frequent interaction with other labs and coordination of program activities.
- Advise and consult for undergraduate design-related courses: Provide guidance and support for design projects, ensuring integration with laboratory activities.
- Design and develop new laboratory experiments: Create new experiments to complement in-class learning objectives and ensure laboratory safety compliance.
Minimum Requirements:
- Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree is preferred.
- Minimum of seven year of experience to include managing projects, in managing instructional laboratories and supervising teaching assistants OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and equipment maintenance.
