Job Description

We are looking for a Broadband Grants Manager to join our growing team! In this role, you will report to the Senior Director, Broadband Grants and Compliance, who is leading the company’s program to attract hundreds of millions of dollars in state and federal grants to Brightspeed under the U.S. government’s Broadband, Equity, Accessibility and Deployment (BEAD) and various other state and federal broadband grant programs. You will play a critical role in researching, drafting, and managing our BEAD applications across Brightspeed’s 20-state operating footprint, and in maximizing value-creation for the company. You will need experience in project management, grant preparation and drafting, excellent written, verbal, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work in a rapidly changing and fast-paced environment.

As a Broadband Grants Manager, your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Negotiate, draft, and file timely grant applications and supporting documentation according to state and federal requirements, including the BEAD program requirements
  • Evaluate and coordinate with vendors, as necessary, to manage all processes necessary to apply for and complete grant applications
  • Interface with internal stakeholders including Brightspeed Network Operations, Finance, Marketing, and the Government and Legislative Affairs teams on issues and inputs pertaining to grant applications
  • Develop strategies and tactics to prepare effective and compelling grant applications that highlight key elements of Brightspeed’s operations, services, and reputation to position the company in as favorable light as possible with state Broadband Development Offices and the NTIA
  • Support the Brightspeed Broadband Office team in negotiations with state Broadband Development Offices over winning grant applications and ensuing agreements
  • Deliver complex messages regarding Brightspeed’s broadband grant program, BEAD and state broadband grant applications clearly and persuasively to regulators, government stakeholders in multiple states and technical/business audiences
  • Learn and understand state BEAD programs in terms of grant application requirements, including application scoring criteria, ways to maximize Brightspeed’s grant application scoring opportunities, applying the company’s facts and programs to meet state BEAD program criteria, and incorporating relevant company data and information into our grant applications, all with the goal of putting forward the strongest grant applications possible

Qualifications

WHAT IT TAKES TO CATCH OUR EYE:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field
  • Prior experience in relevant grant preparation and drafting experience for federal or states grants, preferably in the telecommunications space and ideally in the context of government broadband programs (e.g., ARPA, RDOF, BTOP or other programs)
  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills, including prior grant drafting.
  • Strong project management, database management, and organizational are essential
  • In-depth knowledge or demonstrated ability to understand complex cost-modeling, GIS mapping, network, technical, and economic concepts related to a network-related industry
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, collegial project-driven team environment

BONUS POINTS FOR:

  • Familiarity with government broadband grant programs and evaluation criteria
  • A law degree or master’s in business administration or related field
