Head of Economic Analysis

Economic Analysis is the custodian of the RBA’s view on current economic conditions and the outlook and the underlying analytical frameworks and infrastructure and sits at the heart of the monetary policy process. The Head of Economic Analysis needs to be able to lead and empower a diverse, collaborative and collegiate team that work together and embody the Bank’s Open & Dynamic culture, to deliver excellent economic analysis and policy advice to the Board.
Objectives
Oversee and contribute to the effective performance of the RBA and delivery of the RBA’s strategic priorities through leadership of the Economic Analysis department and contributing to RBA-wide strategic initiatives.
Motivate, foster, and inspire a culture aligned to the RBA’s values, enabling an environment for high levels of staff engagement and performance.
Build an open and dynamic environment that focuses on delivering outcomes, prioritisation, learning and adapting as we go.
Provide leadership, guidance and development of employees and teams to effectively achieve team, department, and enterprise outcomes.
Provide proactive and effective communication, encouraging multilevel feedback and fostering a culture of openness and trust.
Foster collaborative relationships with colleagues and key stakeholders to achieve enterprise outcomes.
Technical Capabilities
Proven ability to lead and inspire a team of economists and technical experts to deliver agreed-upon outputs, including leading through change.
Experience developing and successfully implementing strategic plans at a department/business unit level.
Experience anticipating and managing complex risks and engaging with multiple stakeholders to successfully deliver strategic objectives, including the effective management of staff health, safety and holistic wellbeing.
Experience in developing policies, systems, and processes, including substantial experience in the provision of high-level policy advice and recommendations for change.
Proven ability to lead and inspire a team of economists and technical experts to deliver excellent economic analysis and forecasts
Ability to write and communicate complex economic concepts and dynamics to a diverse audience, including the Monetary Policy Board and the general public
Ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships, to broaden and deepen the Bank’s understanding of current economic conditions and the outlook
Experience credibly representing public or private sector organisations at a senior level, in formal and informal settings.
Strong understanding of the Australian economy, financial markets, and system.
Strong understanding of the purpose of the central bank, and the context in which all functional areas contribute to the strategic goals of the enterprise.
Qualifications
Relevant tertiary qualifications in economics or a related discipline, preferably at postgraduate level, or equivalent experience.
