Key Responsibilities
Customer Service: provide the best customer service in a courteous, fast and efficient manner. Accommodate all requests and special needs for guests and Clients
Lead: supervise the Pastry Team to ensure production times are met and in-line with standards and expectations. Train/instruct employees and interns on duties and techniques
Prepare: produce a variety of sweet and savory pastries and desserts including cupcakes, cakes, pies, torts, flans, custards, granolas, cookies, pate a choux, cheesecakes, bars and vegan desserts
Bake: ensure pastries and desserts are baked with quality and production goals in mind
Create: mix and measure according to recipe guidelines; handle and manipulate ingredients and product from start to finish, including plating and presentation
Collaborate: enjoy the camaraderie and teamwork in the kitchen and take advantage of opportunities to collaborate on menus and recipe rotations
Communicate: provide management with consistent communication on operational tasks and team effectiveness, scheduling, workplace improvements and safety
Safety: maintain a clean and organized workspace. Follow all safety and sanitation procedures within set guidelines from OSHA, HACCP and Department of Public Health and Risk Management – and ensure your team is following guidelines as well

Knowledge and Skills
Excellent baking skills and experience with from scratch production
Strong communication, multi-tasking and problem-solving skills
Sense of urgency and ability to work and lead a team within a safe manner
Basic problem-solving skills and ability to multi-task
Requirements
Minimum 3 to 5 years of pastry experience
High school diploma or GED; culinary degree preferred but not required.
Pastry Baker Supervisors must have and maintain an active Food Handlers Card, as required by the California Health Department
Work Environment
The work environment for Pastry Jr Sous Chef includes the following large kitchen environment elements and exposures
Fast paced kitchen
High sense of urgency
Moderate to high noise level
Exposure to soap and cleaning solutions
Slippery/uneven surfaces may be encountered
Hot/cold environments when moving thins in and out of the fridge and freezer
Physical Demands
Some heavy lifting (may lift 10-50 lbs.) and possible moving of equipment required
Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision
Repetitive hand motion carrying food containers, using carts both loaded and unloaded
Standing, walking, bending/twisting, and balance are all required to perform job task
