About the team and position

Join Carvana’s Legal Department in the role of Team Lead, Compliance.  As a member of Carvana’s Compliance Team, you'll be part of the group that’s continuing the build-out of Carvana’s Compliance Management System (“CMS”) and you’ll be responsible for the management of non-attorney Compliance Team members and prioritization of various projects and assignments related to the development, maintenance and execution of the CMS.

 

What you’ll be doing

 

  • Develop an understanding of Carvana business processes and systems and build associated technical understanding of compliance and legal consumer protections risks related to the automotive and financial services industries.
  • Responsible for implementing the creation/revision, documentation, delivery and maintenance of compliance training, policies, operating procedures, assessments, audits and remediation projects.  
  • Oversee the project management of comprehensive research, analysis and (in conjunction with the Legal team) interpretation of laws, regulations and business licensing requirements.  Set expectations on project outcomes and timelines for Compliance Team members and business stakeholders.  
  • Investigate, evaluate, and analyze facts related to various Carvana purchases, services, processes, and/or practices, and provide findings to other Compliance Team members in a digestible format.   
  • Present guidance in a digestible format to all levels of Compliance Team members as well as business partners/stakeholders related to applicable legal/regulatory/compliance requirements and in response to new product concepts and specific inquiries posed by business partners.
  • Manage the implementation of new or revised compliance controls or procedures.
  • Set expectations about documentation of analysis behind key compliance decisions, remediation projects, and new/revised legal and regulatory obligations.
  • Identify process inefficiencies and develop and implement solutions to eliminate or minimize inefficiencies and improve Compliance’s services to business partners/stakeholders, while maintaining compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Manage and lead execution of projects and other deliverables as assigned by Legal or Compliance Team leadership.
  • Establish and maintain excellent communication and positive relationships with business partners to ensure successful outcomes concerning compliance obligations and strategic business objectives.
  • Lead a small but growing group of non-attorney Compliance Team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

What you should know/have

The successful Manager, Compliance is team-oriented and highly attentive to detail, focused on successfully serving business partners, a problem solver and comfortable with ambiguity while managing and prioritizing multiple high-priority projects at once.  This position requires an understanding of Carvana’s organizational goals, business goals and priorities and an appreciation of how the Compliance Team’s efforts can support the success of those initiatives, while simultaneously managing compliance risks related to Carvana’s complex regulatory and legal requirements.  This position requires frequent interaction with Carvana’s legal and business teams and requires clear communication that presents complex information in a concise and easy-to-understand manner.  

 

We also require:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 2+ years of compliance or legal experience in a highly regulated industry, preferably financial services.
  • 2+ years of experience leading others/teams.
