POSITION SUMMARY:


The Saratoga Regional YMCA is hiring for a Senior Lifeguard and we are excited to have you join our team! This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Senior Lifeguard maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Lifeguard creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and promotes safety in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Serves as leader on the pool deck in absence of Aquatics Director.
  • Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
  • Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code.
  • Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
  • Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.
  • Follow the “Stand, Sit, Stroll” – 5-minute rule (i.e. change positions effectively).
  • Ensure neatness of the pool area by picking up equipment or items left by swimmers periodically during and at the end of a shift.
  • Monitor and anticipate pool needs and conditions, as well as staffing needs.
  • Ability to supervise swim lesson programs, administer swim tests and track; as well as adjust pool according to usage demands.
  • Mentors and leads Lifeguards. Assists with onboarding and training of new staff members.
  • Supports Aquatic Director with administrative duties, as assigned.
  • Knows, understands, and consistently applies and adheres to safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  • Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, completes related reports as required.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps them connect with each other and the Y. Identifies potential volunteers.
  • Identifies and celebrates the successes of members and program participants.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of the YMCA and our three areas of focus: youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
  • Ability to articulate and model the Y’s four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
  • Attends all staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Wears required and approved uniform items at all times.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18 years old.
  • Two+ years lifeguarding experience.
  • Current ARC or YMCA Lifeguard certification.
  • Current CPR PRO & First Aid certifications.
  • Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA/ARC standards
