Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking an Entry Level Geologist/Environmental Scientist for employment in our Dallas, Texas office to support soil and groundwater investigations and remediation projects. The ideal candidate will be willing and able to learn new skills and methods while working on challenging field and office assignments in a collaborative team environment. 

This position is expected to begin in Fall 2024.

Candidate will gain experience in their discipline through learning on the job and participate in development opportunities enabling professional growth. Candidate will complete field tasks, including site investigations, drilling oversight, soil and groundwater sample collection, remediation system data collection, and related work. The candidate will also provide office support for data management, report preparation, and maintain the required AECOM-related documentation and forms.

Tasks will include:

  • Conducting environmental field work, including soil logging, groundwater sampling, fluid level gauging and oversight of field surveys, drilling, well installation, development operations, and utility clearance for intrusive operations.
  • Field document preparation and field data collection, processing, and interpretation.
  • Supporting office tasks, including data analysis and report preparation.
  • Utilizing basic scientific principles, theories, practices, and existing technologies to develop solutions for technical problems with limited scope.
  • Collecting and entering data and applying technical principles and theories. 
  • Interpreting and recording data, conducting analyses, and comparing findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance. 
  • Travelling to project locations, including driving and overnight stays.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in the Geological, Hydrogeological, or Environmental Sciences; Engineering; or a related field.
  • Due to the nature of the work, U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License required to visit project sites, clients, and other AECOM offices. 
  • As a condition of employment, selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review and a substance abuse test.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the environmental remediation industry (private or public).
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER Certification.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable meeting with clients, colleagues, and sub-contractors alike.
  • Flexible with working hours and locations; frequent travel within 1 – 2-hour drive of home office and occasionally further.
  • Willingness and ability to learn and rapidly master new tasks.
  • Strong research and report writing (including web-based research).
  • Excellent written and verbal skills.
  • Strong quality and time management.
  • Self-starter, develops and delivers work under own initiative.
  • Solid attention to detail and thorough approach to work.
  • Proficient with basic computer programs; Microsoft Suite Programs.
