Who are we looking for: We seek an experienced human health risk practitioner.  This person will support various state- and federal-led projects in our environmental practice business unit and help us expand our risk assessment practice and project work, internally and externally, through direct application of technical expertise on projects, technical review of project deliverables, and mentoring of project-level staff. The ideal candidate will be comfortable not only performing and reviewing human health risk assessments, reviewing ecological risk assessments, and conducting risk communication (e.g., participating in public meetings, corresponding with stakeholders, etc.) but also helping project staff to continue growing as risk professionals. We prefer a candidate with experience conducting risk assessments under state (like MA) and federal (e.g., CERCLA, RCRA, or TSCA) regulatory risk paradigms. Experience with emerging contaminants (such as PFAS) is a plus. Applicant should be a strategic thinker with exceptional communication skills who can also help expand the ways we apply various applications of risk assessment. 

What You Will Be Doing at Woodard & Curran:

  • Primary responsibilities will include conducting/reviewing human health risk assessments and reviewing ecological risk assessments.
  • Manage and supervise risk assessment projects utilizing Woodard & Curran technical and administrative staff.
  • Business development efforts will include the preparation of proposals, project interviews, and marketing activities.
  • Lead and complete technical tasks as required to support the projects.
  • Mentor/train project staff
  • Typical project tasks range from assisting with site assessment or remedial investigations through the performance of human health/ecological risk assessments, calculating risk-based remedial goals, developing/refining conceptual site models, conducting statistical assessments, risk-based corrective action planning, and documentation and reporting in accordance with applicable environmental laws and regulations.
  • The position also involves cost estimating and management of the scope, schedule, and budget for various project tasks.
  • Report writing and interaction with project staff, clients, and regulatory agencies will also play an important role in the candidate’s success.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders/public.
  • Active participation in professional organizations and delivering presentations in the external marketplace. 

What You Will Need To Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in toxicology, chemistry, biology, biostatistics, environmental health or similar from accredited program is required. MS desirable
  • 15 years experience conducting/reviewing human health risk assessments
  • Strong appreciation of and commitment to safe work practices.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including technical report writing
  • Client focused as a “Seller/Doer” with an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Ability to work independently and on large multi-disciplinary teams
  • Experience with federal and state regulatory programs and risk assessment protocols
  • Risk communication expertise
  • Vapor intrusion expertise
  • Experience with wide suite of COPCs
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

  • Masters/graduate degree in public health, environmental science/engineering, chemistry, toxicology, or other related sub
